πŸš” Proactive checks help keep stolen machinery off the road.

Great to be working with the TVP Rural Crime Taskforce and TVP Commercial Vehicle Unit to carry out proactive checks on vehicles carrying plant machinery, trailers, caravans and wood chippers in the Abingdon area.

Most vehicles checked were in order, while officers also identified uninsured and overweight vehicles.

Alongside enforcement, the operation provided valuable crime prevention advice to drivers and operators.

A great example of partnership working to help protect valuable assets and tackle theft. πŸ‘

Every recovery matters. CRiS helps police identify stolen caravans and return them to their registered keepers.

When a stolen caravan is recovered, identifying its true identity is critical.

Thanks to close collaboration between the police, Interpol and The NCC, this caravan was confirmed as stolen from Germany.

That's why CRiS registration matters. It provides a trusted record that helps law enforcement verify the registered keeper, trace a caravan's history and support recovery efforts across borders.

Register. Verify. Recover.

During the week, officers seized a caravan in West Berkshire as it was suspected to have been stolen.

Our specially trained officers; working with partner agencies at Interpol & NCC, have been able to confirm that it was stolen from Germany

Another stolen caravan recovered – clear evidence of the value of CRiS registration and checks.

After a prospective buyer carried out checks before purchasing, we were able to flag the caravan as stolen, leading to its recovery by police.

This is a timely reminder to always check before you buy. A few minutes could save you from purchasing stolen property and help reunite a stolen caravan with its registered keeper.

βœ… Check before you buy
βœ… Be wary of deals that seem too good to be true
βœ… Make sure your caravan is registered with CRiS

Registration works. Vigilance works. Together, they help bring stolen caravans home.

Yesterday, acting promptly on information supplied by NCC CRiS, officers from the Rural Crime Team attended a residential address in Warrington and successfully recovered a stolen caravan!

The caravan had been outstanding for some time but came to light after a diligent prospective buyer carried out checks before purchasing it. Its stolen status was then quickly flagged to us. This incident highlights just how important it is to conduct thorough checks when purchasing second hand goods.

Consideration was given to arresting the current keeper for the offence of Handling Stolen Goods. However, due to the specific circumstances and the length of time since the original theft, this was not deemed proportionate or necessary at this stage. Enquiries are ongoing as we work to establish the chain of ownership and trace those responsible for the theft.

Our advice:

1) Always carry out thorough checks before purchasing high-value items, be mindful of VIN numbers or security markings that don't look right
Be suspicious of prices that seem too good to be true

2) Register caravans and equipment with recognised schemes

3) This recovery demonstrates the importance of vigilance and the benefits of registration schemes in helping us reunite stolen property with its rightful owners.

(For logistical reasons, the caravan was moved to a separate uninvolved location (pictured) prior to being loaded onto a police recovery truck)
