The photo is of John and Barbara Cook, the second generation to get involved in transport, albeit not on the road. John's dad - Thomas Cook was the landlord of the Hare and Hounds in Eltringham (West side of Prudhoe), he is also recorded as the Ferryman at Eltringham, rowing pedestrians across the Tyne. The first record of the cook family in transport. by 1869 Thomas's son John was the ferryman at Wylam ferrying across the Tyne from Wylam to the train station on the South side of the Tyne. Barbara at the same time was the landlady of the Boat House at Wylam and between them they had 13 children (no wonder she looks tired).
