The start of June sees us highlighting summer driving, motorcycle and cycle safety and with that we put out our ghost bike,🚲 it will make its way around the work site to draw attention to passing motorists to share the road, slow down, and exercise extreme caution, we hope that it will help us highlight the dangers cyclists face each day.

UK Road Safety Statistics 2025: A Mixed Picture

The latest Department for Transport figures reveal some encouraging news, but also some areas of concern.

📉- Road fatalities overall fell by 3% in 2025, with an estimated 1,556 people losing their lives on UK roads compared to 2024.

However…

📈- People killed or seriously injured (KSIs) increased by 4% to 29,910, suggesting that while fewer collisions are proving fatal, more are resulting in life-changing injuries.

🏍️🏍️- Motorcycle fatalities rose by 13% to 384 deaths – the second consecutive annual increase. While it’s too early to say whether this is a long-term trend, the figures highlight the continued vulnerability of riders on our roads.

Positive reductions were seen among:
• Pedestrians: down 9% to 372 fatalities 🚶‍♂️
• Car occupants: down 8% to 638 fatalities 🚘
• Cyclists: down 1% to 81 fatalities 🚴

🚲🚴🚴- However , despite cyclist fatalities falling slightly, total pedal cycle casualties increased by 10% to 16,027 – the largest percentage rise of any road user group. This suggests more cyclists are being injured, even if fewer are being killed.

Overall casualties of all severities remained largely unchanged at 127,870.

The key message? While fewer people are dying on our roads, serious injuries are rising, and vulnerable road users – particularly motorcyclists and cyclists – continue to face significant risks.

🚴🏍️🏍️🏍️🚴🚴📈📈📈

This afternoon I got a call from a colleague telling me to look at the pictures he’d just sent me, I wasn’t to bothered to look but when he told me it was his tyre I popped over to have a look and was greeted by these two pictures.

Needless to say he has been and bought two new front tyres. I think I’ve convinced him that buying part worns is costing him more money.

To be fair a new tyre was £60 and a part worn £45. Did I mention he’d replaced the original one about 5 months ago, much to my dismay?

TyreSafe feel free to use the pictures as you need. He’s bringing the tyre in tomorrow and we’ll be using it during tyre safety week 2026

Driving safety starts with us all — every trip, every time.

Buckling up i.e putting your seatbelt on literally takes seconds, but it can save a life. Seatbelts are proven to reduce the risk of serious injury and death, and they protect everyone in the vehicle.

If you’re driving with friends, remember: passengers come with responsibility. Fewer distractions, speaking up when something feels unsafe, and looking out for one another can make all the difference.

🚘 - Buckle up every time
📵 - Stay focused behind the wheel
🏠- Be the friend who helps everyone get home safely

Because good mates look out for each other.

With the Bank Holiday and the warmer weather arriving, we are likely to see many more motorbikes out on our roads. Riders often take advantage of the sunshine and longer days, which means drivers need to be especially alert and aware.

Please take extra care when driving — not just this weekend, but all year round. Motorbikes can be harder to spot than larger vehicles, particularly at junctions, roundabouts, and when checking mirrors before changing lanes.

A great habit to encourage is asking your children to help spot motorbikes during journeys. Turning it into a simple game or routine helps build their awareness from a young age. Over time, this awareness becomes second nature, helping them grow into safer, more observant road users in the future.

Small habits like these can make a big difference in keeping everyone safer on our roads.

Whatever your plans are this Bank Holiday weekend, please take a moment before you set off to ask yourself:
Am I doing everything I can to keep myself and other road users safe?

If the answer is no, don’t drive until you are.

Make smart choices and help keep our roads safe.

Did you know we offer interactive road safety education sessions for schools, colleges, and community groups — completely free of charge?
