This one had spent many years ashore and needed works including some refastening and a good overhaul. Looking a lot better now with fresh varnish. Ready for summer.

Long overdue post! Here's the classic yacht 'Kalèa' on our East Cowes Clarence Yard Slipway. The 70-foot wooden ketch, designed by Bruno Veronese and built in 1965 at Cantieri di Pisa in Italy came in for some routine maintenance and a quick turn around. Great to see her on the slip!

I got handed some great photos of the J Class yacht 'Velsheda' in our Arctic Dry Dock - Feb 1989.... at 15ft draught, she must have been one of the deepest draught boats that used the dock!

Following a mammoth restoration, the 1956 Ketch 'Ursula' is finally back afloat. This massive project involved all aspects of the boat, from keel to masthead, including a complete new deck, replacement of all deck beams, new bulwarks and stanchions with capping rails, a new stern post and most of the topside planking.....extensive repairs to all the cabin structures, a full interior refit and full engine room refit....mast and spars......It went on and on! Now she's in better shape than she has ever been!

Discovering the history of our Cowes shipyards is always interesting. Here is a fantastic and informative website detailing the history of the Arctic Dry Dock when it was the Free French Naval base during the Second World War.
We still have a lot of tools and machines on site from this time that we continue to use today.

The useful old hand operated crane at the East Cowes Clarence Yard had been unused for a long time..... so we finally set to and gave it a good service.... lowering the boom and freeing the seized pulley wheel and a full needle gun removal of rust, a good lubrication, new cable and some fresh paint.
This work should keep this crane operational for many more years!
