# ๐ฎ๐น Rome โ Our First Taste of La Dolce Vita โค๏ธ
And just like thatโฆ **weโve arrived in Rome!** ๐ฎ๐น
Our Ryanair flight was quick and easy, although we did leave around 30 minutes late. Thankfully, we managed to make up the time in the air, and before we knew it, we were coming into land.
Security was surprisingly quick too, and we were soon out of the airport, bags collected and heading towards our apartment. In fact, just **55 minutes after landing, we were at our front door โ around 2pm!** Now thatโs the kind of airport experience we like! ๐
There was just enough time to freshen up, grab our things and head out into the streets of Romeโฆ and with **five hungry ladies**, food was definitely the priority!
# # # ๐ First stopโฆ FOOD!
We found our way to **La Taverna di Adriano**, and after travelling, we were more than ready for a proper Italian lunch.
Pizza, pasta, good food and five hungry womenโฆ what more could we possibly ask for? ๐ฎ๐น๐๐
The food was absolutely delicious, and it was the perfect way to start our first afternoon in the Eternal City. There is something about sitting down in Rome, surrounded by the sounds, smells and energy of Italy, that instantly makes you realise **youโre actually here!**
And then came the walkingโฆ because Rome is one of those cities where you really do just want to wander.
# # # โจ The Trevi Fountain
Our first big stop was the **Trevi Fountain**, and even though youโve seen it countless times in photographs, nothing quite prepares you for seeing it in person.
The fountain dates back to the 18th century and sits dramatically against the Palazzo Poli, with the enormous Oceanus at its centre, surrounded by horses, tritons, rock and cascading water. It really is an incredible piece of Baroque theatre.
Of course, we couldn't visit Rome without seeing itโฆ although weโve already decided that **we need to come back and see it after dark.**
Because if thereโs one thing Rome does brilliantly, it's atmosphere.
# # # ๐ฉท The Spanish Steps
From the Trevi Fountain we wandered towards the **Spanish Steps**, taking in the beautiful streets along the way.
The steps themselves were built between 1723 and 1726 and rise dramatically towards the church of Trinitร dei Monti. They have long been one of Romeโs great meeting places, surrounded by beautiful architecture, elegant streets and, of course, some very tempting shopping!
And talking of shoppingโฆ
# # # ๐๏ธ Just wanderingโฆ
We then headed off with absolutely **no idea where we were going** โ which, actually, might be one of the best ways to explore Rome!
The streets were lined with beautiful designer shops, gorgeous restaurants, little cafรฉs and those picture-perfect Italian streets that make you want to stop every few minutes and take another photograph.
Eventually, we spotted somewhere that looked far too inviting to walk past.
So, naturallyโฆ we stopped for drinks. ๐น
And what was supposed to be a quick drink turned into **sitting in the little cafรฉ until it was dark**.
But honestly, those are often the moments you remember most.
No schedule.
No rushing.
Just five of us sitting together, watching Rome go by, chatting, laughing, drinking and soaking up the atmosphere.
And as the light faded, the city somehow became even more beautiful.
# # # ๐ก Our little home in Rome
Eventually, we decided it was time to head back to the apartment.
And we really couldn't have asked for a better location.
We have a supermarket literally **across the road**, we're around **seven minutes from the Trevi Fountain** and approximately **ten minutes from the Spanish Steps** โ so everything we want to see is right on our doorstep.
The apartment itself is great. It's perhaps a little tired in places, but it has **two bedrooms, a living room and kitchen, and a lovely balcony** โ and for the five of us, it feels like the perfect little base for our Roman adventure.
There is something rather lovely about coming back after a day of exploring, opening the balcony doors and knowing that the magic of Rome is happening just outside.
And tonight, we're tiredโฆ but it's the good kind of tired.
The kind that comes from walking through beautiful streets, seeing famous sights, eating delicious food and laughing with good friends. โค๏ธ
Tomorrow we're up early and have a **full day ahead of us**, so it's time to get some rest.
Rome has already given us a wonderful first tasteโฆ
**and tomorrow, we're going back for more.** ๐ฎ๐นโจ
*Buona notte, Romaโฆ* โค๏ธ
