Well, we cannot end the week without celebrating the triumphs of Scotland and England in the FIFA2026 Football World Cup.

SCOTLAND

When Scotland secured a place in the finals in April 2026, with a stunning overhead kick, the whole country came out to party! The excitement has been growing for weeks. Banners are out, flags are out, bunting is everywhere. As the opening match approached, is seemed as though a quarter of the country boarded flights over to USA 😉

Fast forward to their first match on 14th June 2026 and I think we can safely say that America has fallen in love with the Tartan Army! The kilts, the sporrans, the pipes, the bands, the marching, the singing, the laughter, the banter and now…soon to be…the haggis!

AMERICA…Embrace The Chieftain!

ENGLAND

England entered the tournament as one of the top three favourites, backed by an unbeaten qualifying campaign.

Wednesday 17th June, in Dallas put a spotlight on England’s attacking strength. What a match that was. Arguably the finest of the competition so far. England always reaches for the sky. This time they will reach for a second world title that has been elusive for 60 years!

One final poignant observation to make…If England won the FIFA2026 tournament, on USA soil, in the 250th USA anniversary year, well I think our bragging rights would be more than justified!

Strait of Hormuz disruption is pushing freight costs higher

The biggest story affecting shipping is the continued disruption around the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important energy and maritime chokepoints. Tanker movements remain constrained, insurance premiums have surged, and carriers are once again adding fuel surcharges. Container freight rates are also rising as ships reroute or face delays.

Red Sea and Suez Canal routing remains uncertain

Container lines are gradually testing returns to the Red Sea and Suez Canal after years of diversions around the Cape of Good Hope. However, many operators remain cautious because security risks and insurance costs remain elevated. A full-scale return could create short-term port congestion in Europe before eventually lowering shipping costs.

Port congestion is worsening in several regions

Shipping schedules are being disrupted by vessel bunching, blank sailings, and congestion at major ports around the world. Logistics providers are reporting more delays affecting both ocean freight and inland transport networks.

Freight rates are climbing again

Container rates have been rising once again in recent days as carriers pass through higher fuel costs and account for longer transit routes. Asia–Europe and Asia–Mediterranean trades are among the most affected.

Trade policy and tariffs are creating uncertainty

Shippers are still adjusting to changing tariff policies and shifting trade patterns. Companies are front-loading shipments, moving inventory earlier than usual, and rethinking sourcing strategies to reduce risk.

432 (that we know of) UK construction machinery companies collapse in one month.

432 construction firms collapsed in one month. At this point Rachel Reeves has done more demolition work than most of the companies that just went bust. 3,851 construction insolvencies in a year and Labour still talks about “building the future” like a group project assembled by students who for...

FUEL PROTESTS PLANNED AT PORT OF FELIXSTOWE NEAR A14

Fuel protests planned at Port of Felixstowe near A14

Fuel protests are planned for three days this week, at one of the countries busiest ports, with motorists warned of delays. Fuel protests are planned at the container terminal on the A14 in Felixstowe from Wednesday, April 15 until Friday, April 17.

The other locations include M8 between junctions 20 and 19, the A1(M) at Scotch Corner, and the M6/M74 at the Scottish border.

As well as the M6 junction 20, the M6 ‘Spaghetti Junction’, the A1 near Moto Grantham, and junctions on the M5/M4 and M1/M25.

Further meeting points include the M25 at the Dartford Crossing (northbound and southbound), M2 junction 3, M20 junction 6, the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge, the A50 Uttoxeter Bypass.

A spokesman for Suffolk police said: "Police are aware of a potential protest by farmers driving tractors in convoy on the A14 to Felixstowe later this week. If it does go ahead we will liaise with the organisers to enable a peaceful and safe protest but motorists are advised there could be delays on the A14."

Happy Friday everyone! 🎉 Its been one of those roller-coaster weeks - some highs, some lows, and a lot of highs at the fuel pump ⛽😅. Petrol and diesel prices have definitely been doing their usual dance lately.

Hopefully the weekend brings fewer ups and downs and more relaxation 🍻☀️.

EWS LOGISTICS LTD

The Backbone of Global Trade

Did you know... that more than 90 % of the world’s goods travel by sea? Everything from smartphones to fresh produce, cargo ships keep our shelves stocked and economies moving.

• Gigantic vessels: modern ultra‑large container ships can carry over 24 000 TEU (twenty‑foot equivalent units). That’s enough room for thousands of cars, pallets of clothing, or even entire houses!
• Smart ports: AI‑driven cranes, automated guided vehicles, and real‑time tracking make loading and unloading faster and greener.
• Sustainability push: the industry is cutting emissions with cleaner fuels, wind‑assist technologies, and carbon‑offset programs.

Every container tells a story of supply chains, innovation, and the people who keep the world connected. 🌍✨

The Grimaldi Group's newest and shinyest PCTC has been christened and delivered from SWS China in January 2026.

With a length of 200 meters, a beam of 38 meters, and a gross tonnage of approximately 77,500 tons, the Grande Manila has been designed for the efficient transport of vehicles (cars, SUVs, vans, etc.), both electric and powered by traditional fuels, as well as any other type of rolling cargo. The vessel has a loading capacity of 9,241 CEU (Car Equivalent Units), with four decks also capable of carrying other rolling cargo, including heavy loads of up to 250 tons and as high as 6.5 meters.

She has made a stop at Portbury this morning on her maiden voyage!

Something tells me there will be a party in Portbury any time soon!
