Before the Christmas break we had visit from the Beeb who have been very supportive in dealing with abandoned boats on our country’s rivers.

The action on the River Avon in Devon comes amid a rise in abandoned boats around the UK.

🚨 Beware Internet Scammers! Don't buy that boat online without viewing... 🚨

Thinking of buying a "bargain" boat on Facebook Marketplace? Here's what we’re seeing:

“Free boat, just needs a bit of TLC”
"Boat £2,000 ONO or will swap for a car or motorbike"
“£300 lovely sailboat, just needs a clean"
"Comes with a mooring"
"Engine and outboard in good working order"
"Got a poorly leg, can’t use it anymore.”

What they really mean:
• Bilge pump never worked, boat flooded, engine and batteries are dead.
• Notice to remove vessel from the river or yard, sell it quick before I have to pay.
• The mooring doesn't come automatically with the boat.
• No outboard, inboard not worked for years, it's a damp floating caravan
• Picked it up for free, flipping it for whatever you'll pay for it!

❗ DO THIS BEFORE YOU BUY:
✅ See the boat in person – Inspect everything, ask for paperwork.
✅ Run the engine, take it for a spin, check for an outboard.
✅ Talk to the boatyard or Harbour Authority to confirm mooring
✅ If you’re unsure, ask an expert to inspect it.

• Mooring & Boatyard Fees ⚓
• Boat Insurance 🛡️

Don’t let someone sell you a dream and turn it into a nightmare. Protect your hard-earned money, and always do your homework!

Scooter is our neighbour’s cat and they’re really concerned, she hasn’t been home since yesterday morning and it’s not like her.
