Removing a redundant subsea pile inside a live ferry terminal called for careful planning, specialist equipment and close coordination.

At the Port of Pembroke, Marine Plant Hire UK Ltd supported Southbay Civil Engineering Ltd with the removal of a concrete-filled tubular pile.

The pile was cut underwater into 2-metre sections before each section was safely recovered. The work had to fit around ferry movements and a restricted programme, with minimal disruption to terminal operations.

Using the Damen 2611 Multicat β€œTom Scruby” provided the deck space, stability and lifting capacity needed to support both diving and subsea cutting operations.

The result: safe and efficient removal within the allocated programme.

Protecting critical subsea infrastructure, 24 hours a day.

The Sea Seeker is currently positioned off the coast of Dover, providing round-the-clock protection for an exposed subsea cable during a critical period.

Our role is simple but essential: maintain a continuous 24-hour watch, issue regular SΓ©curitΓ© broadcasts, and ensure that no vessels enter the designated cable protection zone. By actively monitoring vessel movements and communicating with passing traffic, we help reduce the risk of accidental damage from fishing activity and safeguard vital offshore infrastructure.

Operations like these highlight the importance of vigilance, professionalism and effective marine coordination in protecting assets that keep essential services running.

Let’s discuss how we can support your operations 🌐 www.marineplanthire.co.uk or email us via [email protected]
