Few careers in aviation trace as complete an arc as Colin Wright's, Director, Shareholder and Board Member at RVL.

Colin’s career spans more than 50 years, beginning in 1975 when he started as a plane cleaner at Air Atlantique, a local air taxi operator in Jersey. By the late 1980s, he was their Managing Director. In 2007, part of Air Atlantique would become RVL Aviation.

In 1995, Colin left to co-found Segers Aviation, eventually specialising in heavy aircraft engine and propeller overhaul and maintenance, of which his shares were sold in 2017. He subsequently founded Isle-Fly, a modern private charter operation based in the Channel Islands, before acquiring a shareholding in RVL Aviation in September 2022.

On RVL’s performance since his involvement, Colin is measured and clear: "Nothing surprises me and I mean that as a compliment. The resilience and hard work of the team, both longstanding staff and newcomers, has driven a remarkable turnaround over the past three and a half years. Everyone who has been part of that should be proud."

It is a privilege to have someone of Colin's calibre on our Board, bringing strategy, governance and personal stake to RVL's long-term success.

It's safe to say the 2026 season is off to a flying start…

We've had a very strong couple of months overall for flying across the fleet, with a considerable number of flying hours, a wide range of customers served and an incredible amount of work from our engineering, operations and flight teams.

At our peak, we had a significant number of aircraft simultaneously in the air across the fleet. A great reminder of what our team is capable of when everything comes together and the weather plays ball.

The credit belongs entirely to our team; thank you to everyone involved.

Last week, members of our Senior Management Team and other senior employees across varying areas of the business came together for a day of training focused on AI in the workplace.

Led by Niels Footman from Dixon AI, the session gave us a fresh perspective on how we can safely use AI across the business, and challenged us to think differently about how AI tools can support smarter working across our operations and enhance our services.

What was clear from the session is everyone is using AI, whether in a personal or professional context, and sharing examples around the room gave everyone insight into new ways to maximise AI’s huge potential.

It's easy to get heads down in the day-to-day running of a business like ours, so days like this are a reminder of the value of learning together and thinking ahead.

Thanks to Niels from Dixon AI for a brilliant session.

RVL Aviation recently supported Cessna's Citation Ascend European demonstration activity in the UK with a two-day aerial filming project.

As the first Citation Ascend to cross the Atlantic began its tour of the UK and Europe, we provided crew, expertise and aircraft to enable Textron Aviation to capture marketing footage and photography across various UK locations.

This is a different but nevertheless important side of what we do: working alongside manufacturers to support their marketing and demonstration work. Interestingly, the requirements are the same as our wider operations: experienced crew, operational expertise and quality aircraft matter just as much for manufacturers as they do for clients operating in the national interest.

The results speak for themselves… We may be biased, but check out the wonderful pictures that came out of it. Which is your favourite?

Thank you to the Textron Aviation team and particularly Katie Collins (Marketing Manager), Duncan Van de Velde (RVP of Sales) and Bobb Gibbs (VP Special Missions) for the collaboration.

Applications are now open for RVL Aviation Work Experience 2026.

We're offering two placements:

• 18-22 May 2026 (applications close 24 April 2026)
• August 2026 - date TBC (applications close 30 June 2026)

Each placement gives students aged 14-16 five days exploring different departments across the business — operations, engineering, commercial, airworthiness — meeting people and getting hands-on experience of what working in aviation looks like.

We know from experience how valuable early exposure to aviation can be. Several of our current engineers and pilots came through apprenticeships or work experience with us, and we continue to invest in young talent.

We are looking for:

• Students aged 14-16
• A passion or interest in aviation
• Permission from school and a parent/guardian

Can you go from building maintenance to aviation engineering? Craig Riley would tell you: yes, absolutely.

Craig joined RVL in 2022 in a stores role, bringing with him transferable skills from his background in electrical work and health & safety. Beyond the appreciation and opportunity to progress, what keeps him here is the work environment itself.

Since then, Craig has moved rapidly from Stores Inspector to Supply Chain Coordinator, and is now a Trainee Licensed Aircraft Engineer, a role he didn't even know existed when he first walked through the door.

"The more I thought about it, the more it suited me," Craig says. "It's meaningful to find that purpose in your professional life. Testing yourself and finding your potential is one thing, being able to do that with supportive and familiar people makes it even better."

Craig's progression hasn't just been about job titles. Along the way, he has picked up knowledge across different parts of the business, stepped up when the team needed it, and built a holistic understanding of how everything fits together. His willingness to raise his hand when opportunities come up has been key.

This summer, Craig will continue his development as a Trainee Licensed Aircraft Engineer, one of several in the hangar currently working toward their licenses.

Stories like Craig's exemplify how we invest in talent from within. What we define as 'talent' is not what someone innately knows from day one, but how willing they are to learn and how far they are prepared to go.

We're looking forward to seeing where this takes Craig, and we're glad he is part of the team.

After a wet, stormy and flood-filled 2025 winter, we have had an excellent week of flying with strong serviceability and availability. Blue skies and sunshine going forward we hope!

Among successful customer kit installs and engineering activity, promising projects lined up for the summer, and increased flight training activity taking place, there is a general busy buzz around the business as we approach spring.

Particular credit to Erin Clarke and the operations team, alongside our COO Rich Baker, who have maintained Flight Ops when resources were stretched because of sickness and weather.

Four new wheels, firmly on the road

Not the front line for an aviation fleet but a new Citroën Relay van is now part of RVL’s ground crew. Its role is to help maintain our engineering operations across the UK, and help us to be even more efficient as we service our customers.

As our company continues to grow, so does the infrastructure behind it. This is a small yet important step to strengthen RVL’s resilient customer support. Plus we think it’s a cheery way to start 2026.

If you see it flying though, you’re absolutely dreaming because the van proves that not everything in our fleet needs a runway!

We're not looking for people who can f_ll in the blanks. We're looking for people who can spot what's missing before anyone else does.

Aviation is a tough industry to break into; we're committed to changing that.

In 2025, we supported over 100 hours of work experience for students considering careers in aviation and engineering, giving them exposure to roles across maintenance, operations and CAMO.

Last summer for instance, we welcomed Pranay Shah to RVL for a week of work experience, delivered in partnership with The Worshipful Company of Coachmakers and Coach Harness Makers. Pranay is an Arkwright Engineering Scholar with a strong interest in aerospace engineering.

These placements are part of our ongoing commitment to opening pathways into the industry for the next generation.
