Unit 319373 was specifically selected as a demonstrator for the High Speed Logistics project. Its primary role was to showcase the concept's potential to the wider industry, rather than serve indefinitely in traffic once the proof of concept had been established.
The unit, alongside the broader trial flow, demonstrated that High Speed Logistics could play a significant role in the future of the railway industry. Moreover, this mode of transport for light freight highlights rail's immense potential in driving decarbonisation efforts within this sector.
Rail Operations Group gained valuable insights from the trial and continues to explore innovative, efficient solutions to tap into this emerging market. Other operators have also joined the movement, initiating or preparing high speed logistics flows of their own.
With its mission now complete, 319373 no longer contributes to the overall High Speed Logistics initiative. As a result, the unit has been deemed surplus to requirements and subsequently retired.
David Burley, CEO of Rail Operations Group, remarked: "Rail Operations Group is proud to have spearheaded the industry's exploration of the opportunities High Speed Logistics presents. This project is a testament to ROG's ongoing commitment to innovation in rail operations. Behind the scenes, we are diligently working to develop robust and diverse traffic flows, building upon the lessons learned from our pioneering efforts".
