This latest On Track With Tim update mixes railway history with some of the biggest changes now taking place on the TransPennine Route Upgrade.

The video starts around Horbury Bridge and Horbury Viaduct, looking back at the area’s railway history and the former Horbury Works, which later became part of Bombardier Transportation and was involved in building Voyager and Super Voyager trains.

From there, the drone moves over Healey Mills, where the huge former marshalling yard is being given a new role. Six new sidings are being created to support the TransPennine Route Upgrade as a logistics hub for materials, engineering trains and resources.

The update also looks at the latest electrification progress, what has already been completed, what is currently under way, and what still needs approval before further sections can move ahead.

At Fall Lane, major ground works and embankment preparation are visible for the future railway alignment.

The flight then continues towards Baker Viaduct, where the large construction crane has now gone and the precast concrete deck units are in place.

Finally, I take a closer look at how the future railway will run through the new grade-separated layout, including the fast lines, slow lines, new embankments and cuttings, and the realignment of the Wakefield routes.

It’s a fascinating mix of railway history and the future taking shape.

Liverpool Street, Thursday: London Overground Class 710 unit 710112 hit the buffer stop and derailed just before 01:00. It was an empty stock move from Chingford. The driver was taken to hospital as a precaution with minor injuries, and Platforms 1–3 were out of use for much of the day.

Ramsgate, Monday: A Southeastern Class 395 Javelin derailed at Ramsgate depot. No passengers were aboard and it was moving at low speed, but Margate–Ramsgate services were reduced. It's the second Javelin to leave the rails at that depot in under two years. The last one was stranded for over two months.

Derby, Thursday: Great British Railways confirmed its HQ site, Becketwell in Derby city centre. Construction starts early 2027, with completion due spring 2029. The building will hold up to 450 staff, and up to 600 apprenticeships will open for 16–21 year olds.

Two low-speed derailments in four days, both with empty trains. Coincidence, or something to look at? Let me know below.

Three days of major change across the TransPennine Route Upgrade.

This latest On Track With Tim video follows work from Cross Gates and Micklefield through to Deighton and Huddersfield, covering bridge preparation, electrification, demolition, new fast tracks and station progress.

The video begins in the east around Cross Gates, Austhorpe Lane, Micklefield and Church Fenton, where work is under way ahead of future bridge changes and OLE installation.

Attention then moves back west to Deighton, where the original A62 Leeds Road Overbridge is being removed, before following new OLE masts appearing east of Colne Bridge Road and continued work on Huddersfield Viaduct.

By Sunday, the rubble clearance at Deighton is well under way, the future fast tracks have been extended across Huddersfield Viaduct towards the station, and asphalt has started to appear on the new Platforms 5 and 6.

It’s a wide-ranging look at how quickly the route is changing over just three days.

The Gledholt Blockade is over — and this is the final chapter.

My longest video yet, at 42 minutes, follows the final four days of the blockade across Huddersfield, Springwood Junction, Hillhouse and Deighton.

The video includes a tamper working at Springwood Junction, major progress at Huddersfield Station, engineers working on a switch and crossing panel at Hillhouse, and the new staircases and footbridge being lifted into place at Deighton.

There is also a major build-up of machinery and materials around Leeds Road and the A62 overbridge as the final weekend of engineering work unfolds.

This has been one of the biggest periods of change I’ve documented on the TransPennine Route Upgrade, and this video brings the blockade series to a close.

Batley Station has changed forever.

One of the biggest engineering challenges on this section of the Transpennine Route Upgrade has now disappeared beneath the finished railway.

For decades, the station’s pedestrian subway created what became known as the Batley Bump, a dip in the track that required trains to slow down as they passed through.

In this latest update, I take a look back at how the subway worked, why it created the problem, and how engineers permanently closed and infilled it to create a smoother railway capable of supporting higher speeds.
