We thought you might enjoy this lovely memory shared by Ian Osprey, looking back to a very early crossing on the Dunoon–Gourock route.

“My wife and I were on your Dunoon to Gourock crossing yesterday. Only the second time we’ve used your service, so not regular customers!

Imagine the delight when we were directed onto the Isle of Shuna again. Not the same vessel of course, but still a nice touch of nostalgia.

It brought back memories of an earlier crossing, around 1976–77. The car was tightly packed in, and I remember feeling quite claustrophobic and very aware of the responsibility I felt travelling with my wife (then girlfriend) and my mum and dad.

What I remember most clearly, though, was a small girl running up and down the stairs beside us, and a man setting up a camera on a tripod in front of a green Ford Es**rt. I watched the scene until we docked.

Funnily enough, that old photograph reappeared online a couple of years ago, which inspired me to try and recreate it yesterday. We weren’t quite first in the queue this time, so I only managed to capture a wing mirror rather than the full shot!

A small piece of shared history, and a reminder of how journeys stay with us over time.”

We love hearing memories like this from across the years -thank you for sharing it with us and we hope you don't leave it as long to travel with us next time..
