General information

The group "Somewhat Strident But Who Cares" was founded in 2007 by a bunch of very cool people who'd had enough of sitting on the tube staring at advertisements telling them how much happier they'd be with bigger boobs/smaller waists/better teeth/smoother skin/fewer brain cells... The group initially focussed on lobbying Transport for London to stop battering its female passengers daily with this barrage of unhealthy imagery and to replace these ads with soemthing less damaging to women and girls. However, as the group gained momentum, more and more people became involved in adding their frustration, anger or bewilderment at what is going on around us in our constant exposure to all aspects of the media - film, music, TV, advertisements, packaging, you name it. The group has become a vibrant forum for discussion, debate, ideas and inspiration and is now a really good community of strong clever funny feminist voices, and somewhere to connect with people who share a sense that soemthing is getting more and more out of kilter out there.
