Mutual is an artist-run studio co-operative based in Edinburgh. Free dedicated parking is available directly in front of the main entrance.

At the heart of the project lay the co-operative values of mutual aid, self-organization and solidarity. Our efforts are currently invested in the provision of affordable studio spaces for early career artists. In the near future, we hope to expand our remit to include regular events, sustainable fabrication facilities and community outreach initiatives. Founding artists and studio holders:

Accessibility:
Mutual is fully accessible to visitors with impaired mobility. There is ramped wheelchair access throughout the building and multiple elevators serving all floors. All toilets are also wheelchair accessible. Please contact us if you have any requests when planning a visit and we’ll be more than happy to arrange for dedicated support. PAUSE HERE ⏸️

This year, amidst the buzz and colour of Edinburgh Fringe, one performance quietly asks for something different: to be witnessed.

‘SOMEONE LIKE ME’ is a powerful solo piece from Ukrainian theatre group ‘Nafta’, travelling from Kharkiv to share their work on the world’s largest performing arts stage. They are the only Ukrainian theatre company performing at the Fringe this year.

Directed and performed by Nina Khyzhna, the play follows a disembodied being who learns to inhabit the bodies of others, understanding fear, resistance, survival and even joy through movement.

Based on real interviews with Ukrainians aged 6 to 90, Someone Like Me captures what it means to live through war. Their voices live in muscle memory, in tension, stillness, shaking, dancing. It’s not just a story of trauma, but of adaptation, care, contradiction, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going.

As a co-op of artists we want to share our commitment to PACBI (Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel)

Over 176 Scottish cultural institutions have already endorsed PACBI. This means not accepting funding, selling products and working with other organisations that have ties to Israel. Together we can pressure more arts organisations into ending their complicity with ongoing massacre of Palestinians.

We call on other artists studios to do the same - inform your artists about PACBI and sign the endorsement link in ‘s bio. They also have plenty of resources if you would like to learn more about the boycott, and what you can do as an artist or as a representative of an organisation.
