Scottish Thirty-Seven Group

Scottish Thirty-Seven Group 37025 and 37261 Since then, in 2000, we purchased former Eastern and then Scottish Region celebrity, 37025.

Our group, 'The Scottish Thirty-seven Group', came into existence in 1997 formed by a handful of Scottish Railway Preservationists to buy and operate a Class 37 locomotive in Scotland. Based at the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway, over 7 years, we have stripped down, repaired and painstakingly restored 025 back into a serviceable status. On 27 September 2007, 37025 complete in BR large logo blue livery

worked its first train in over 8 years. Since then, 'Inverness TMD' has been a stalwart of Bo'ness diesel engine fleet with many appearances on passenger and freight trains on the railway. In June 2009, 37025 ventured to foreign metals and the Keighley and Worth Valley Railway. In October 2010, it was one of the exhibits at the National Railway Museum's class 37 50th anniversary event. On the 18th January 2016, a wonderful moment for the group and the SRPS Diesel Group occurred as 37025 returned to the mainline after many hours of hard work by all the volunteers at Bo'ness (both STG and SRPS) when it ran light engine from Bo'ness to Washford Heath to begin its career on hire to Colas Rail Freight. Since then the loco has worked regularly for Colas Rail travelling all over the United Kingdom hauling various Network Rail test trains. On the 16th July 2016, 37025 hauled its first railtour since returning to the mainline when it was in charge of SRPS Railtours 'The Golden Stag' running from Linlithgow to Inverness and return. Since then 37025 has gone on to work other SRPS Railtours including a trip to Wick and Thurso with 37421 which included 37025 providing steam heat supply to the coaches. Our second loco 37261 'Caithness' arrived at Bo'ness from Barrow Hill following withdrawal by DRS on the 13th July 2015 and is now subject to a full rebuild and overhaul to running condition. Regular updates on progress will be posted on this page. Our third loco is 37214 which arrived at Bo'ness from Carnforth on the 22nd September 2017 and is currently providing valuable spares to both 37025 and 37261.

The auction is being run through GW Railwayana Auctions so it is open to the wider public and the highest bidder will be the winner. The auction is taking place over the weekend of 14 and 15 March and more information about how to bid is included here:

Our spares donor has been smartened by some of our volunteers at Bo'ness using old paint that would otherwise have been wasted. Today the decals were attached for the big reveal!

Elsewhere work is continuing on the overhaul of 37025s bogies to allow the locomotive to return to service later on 2025/2026.

37309 rises from the ashes in April 2025 and will be available for Railtours from 10th May onwards ;-) Total cost of repaint £66.76 Total cost of sticky digits £218.00 And the mighty Motherwell Salmon is just the finishing touch on what is now known as "Pride of the fleet" (well to some anyway). A short video thanks to one of the volunteers of our locomotive undertaking a shunt at Bo'ness yesterday to move SRPS Diesel Group 37403 'Isle of Mull' and 20020 around to allow us to get the 2024 projects in the shed!

As a group we are always on the look out for willing volunteers no matter the experience so why not make your 2024 New Year's Resolution to get involved with the SRPS at Bo'ness! 😀

While shunting to get 25235 back in the Diesel Shed we had this line up : 27001, 37025, 20020 and 25235.
25235 has zero hour bogies, overhauled engine and will need more money to finish the cooler group, body and other parts, 20020 is out of traffic too, it also requires engine work and is in the queue, both SRPS owned locos.

37025 owners are amassing all the components for new bogies and 27001 will be in the shed soon for maintenance.

We didn’t have time to pop 47643 into the line up, it will begin the job of new tyres this year, if you can help the society with a donation to this then please go to https://cafdonate.cafonline.org/25163 #!/DonationDetails

Happy New Year to all our followers!

Whilst we've been quiet on this page, it's been all action down at our home, Bo'ness TMD-Home of The SRPS Diesel Group.

37025 was place on restricted duties earlier in the year after the successful Bo'ness Summer Diesel Gala to undergo a full bogie overhaul. In the last 12 months we have completely stripped two bogies (ex 37214) and started working on overhauling all the components to put them back together so 025 can return to service at Bo'ness and on the mainline.

The wheelsets have now returned from Devon and will have their bearings and axle boxes refitted, whilst the bogie frames are away getting professionally overhauled and it is hoped we can start reassembling the bogies later in the year.

Would you like to help? The SRPS Diesel Group is wholly reliant on volunteers to keep our wonderful locomotives operational so if you'd like to start why not message them via their page and give them a follow!
