Prayer for today:
When peace like a river, attendeth my way
When sorrows like sea billows roll
Whatever my lot, thou hast taught me to say
It is well, it is well, with my soul
It is well
With my soul
It is well, it is well with my soul
Though Satan should buffet, though trials should come
Let this blest assurance control
That Christ has regarded my helpless estate
And hath shed His own blood for my soul
It is well (it is well)
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul
My sin, oh, the bliss of this glorious thought!
My sin, not in part but the whole
Is nailed to the cross, and I bear it no more
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord, o my soul!
It is well (it is well)
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul
It is well (it is well)
With my soul (with my soul)
It is well, it is well with my soul.
Horatio G. Spafford
Horatio Spafford wrote this hymn after a series of devastating personal tragedies including losing his 4 daughters in a shipwreck. When I read his story it enables me to put my problems in perspective. I remember though trials should come IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL. The words were later put to music by Horatios friend and composer Philip Bliss and became one of the most enduring and inspiring hymns that has survived the test of time. This hymn has, all my life, been a comfort and blessing to me. If God is with me I can endure all things. Philipians 4:13 says: I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
