🚢 3 Nights on Ambassador’s Ambience – What Did I Think?
So, I’ve recently come back from a 3-night mini cruise with Ambassador Cruise Line, sailing from London Tilbury over to Amsterdam and back again on board Ambience.
And what can I say? I was really, really impressed! ❤️
I’d heard lots about Ambassador, but this was my first time actually experiencing one of their ships for myself, so I thought I’d tell you a little bit about it and what I thought.
First of all, one thing that’s definitely worth mentioning is that Ambassador is adults only! So, no children on board, which I know will appeal to lots of you!
🚢 The Ship
Ambience carries around 1,400 guests, so compared to some of the huge cruise ships out there, it’s a much smaller, more traditional ship.
And I actually really liked that!
It had a lovely, homely feel to it. There was plenty of space, lots of staff around and it never felt overcrowded.
What I particularly liked was that there were lots of different areas around the ship, so depending on what sort of mood you were in, or what you fancied doing that evening, there was somewhere to suit.
Whether you wanted a quiet drink, a bit of entertainment, a show or a late night dancing, there were plenty of options.
The ship itself was lovely, everywhere felt modern and well looked after, the cabins were really spacious, and the staff were absolutely fantastic.
🍸 Entertainment & Bars
Now, we tried to fit in as much as we possibly could during our three nights!
We joined in with a couple of quizzes, played bingo, went to the silent disco and managed to catch a couple of the evening shows too, which were all fantastic.
The main theatre is called The Palladium, and they put on two performances of each show every evening.
This works really well because the main dining room also has two sittings, so whether you eat early or later, you can still fit in the evening entertainment.
There are plenty of bars to choose from too, including Raffles Bar, the Botanical Lounge, SW19 and the Purple Turtle Pub.
And then there’s the Observatory, which is your late-night venue. So if you fancy carrying on into the early hours and having a dance, you can absolutely do that too!
There was definitely no shortage of things to keep us entertained!
🍽️ The Food
Now, I have to say, the food was one of the things that really impressed me!
For the price you pay for these cruises, I thought the food was fantastic.
You’ve got Buckingham Restaurant, which is the main dining room, where you can sit down and enjoy your meal with waiter service.
Then you’ve got Borough Market, which is the buffet restaurant. There are lots of different food stations, loads of choice and absolutely something for everyone.
We ate in both, and I really couldn’t fault the food at all.
And of course, if you’ve already eaten in the main restaurant and fancy popping up to the buffet afterwards, you can! Nobody’s stopping you! 😂
There’s also the Alfresco Grill up by the pool, where you can grab pizzas, burgers, hot dogs, chips and that sort of thing.
Now, obviously, going from England to Amsterdam in October, we weren’t exactly lying around the pool sunbathing! But we did pop up there for something to eat.
There are also some speciality restaurants on board, including Indian, steakhouse and seafood options, which you can pre-book for an additional charge.
So, plenty of choice when it comes to food, and I really was impressed with the quality.
🧖♀️ Pools, Hot Tubs & Spa
Again, we tried to use as many of the facilities as we could.
We didn’t quite brave the outdoor pool in October, although it was there if we’d fancied it!
We did, however, make use of the hot tubs, and we also went into the steam room and sauna in the spa area.
There are also spa treatments available, which you can book for an additional charge.
💃 Our Girls’ Weekend
Now, the cruise we went on was actually sold as a Girls’ Weekend, and there were some familiar faces on board, including Kate Thornton, Jenny Powell, Harriet Scott and Heidi Range from the Sugababes.
So there was plenty going on and a really good atmosphere.
But one of the things I really like about Ambassador is that they do lots of different themed cruises.
They’ve got 80s and 90s weekends, soul and live music cruises, and even a Cricket Legends cruise coming up, where you’ll have some well-known names from the world of cricket on board.
They also do other music-themed cruises, including One More Dream, with live bands and blues music.
Then, of course, you’ve got the festive cruises, visiting Christmas markets in places like Bruges and Amsterdam.
So there really are lots of different options, particularly if you fancy a few nights away with friends or just want to do something a little bit different.
🌍 And It’s Not Just Mini Cruises!
Now, although we only did three nights, don’t think Ambassador just does short cruises, because they absolutely don’t!
They do everything from little 2-night mini breaks, which are brilliant if you want to try cruising or just fancy a couple of nights away, right through to some much longer itineraries.
You can cruise to the Norwegian Fjords, go in search of the Northern Lights, explore various European destinations or head off to the Caribbean.
They even have a 45-night cruise taking in the Caribbean and South America!
So whether you’re looking for a quick little getaway or something much longer, there are lots of options.
💷 A Few Other Things Worth Mentioning
There are a few other things about Ambassador that I think are definitely worth knowing.
As I’ve already mentioned, they’re adults only, which is a big plus for anyone wanting a child-free cruise.
They’re also a really good option for solo travellers.
They offer some dedicated solo cruises, which come with lots of solo-friendly benefits, including added-value perks and some really low single supplements.
These sailings tend to attract lots of people travelling on their own, so they’re a great opportunity to meet other like-minded people and make new friends along the way.
They also quite often have some fantastic offers, including onboard spending money, free regional coach transfers and special offers for solo travellers, depending on the sailing.
And another thing worth mentioning is that you can upgrade to include one of their various drinks packages.
I think this is a great option if you like to know what you’re spending before you go. You can choose a package to suit you, get it paid for in advance and then just relax and enjoy yourself without worrying about the drinks bill adding up!
❤️ So, Would I Cruise With Ambassador Again?
Absolutely! Without a doubt!
I really was impressed with the whole experience.
The staff were fantastic, the food was brilliant, the cabins were spacious, there was loads going on, and for the money, I thought it was excellent value.
What I liked was that you could do as much or as little as you wanted.
If you wanted to sit and relax with a drink, you could. If you wanted to go to the shows, join in the quizzes, play bingo or dance until late, you could do all of that too.
I’ve only been on Ambience so far, so I can’t comment on Ambassador’s other ships from personal experience, but if they’re anything like this one, I’d definitely be keen to give them a try!
If you’ve not cruised with Ambassador before, or perhaps you’ve never cruised at all, I really do think one of these little mini cruises would be a great way to try it out and see what you think.
