Fareham and Gosport Transport Strategy Consultation outcome.

Hampshire County Council as the Highway and Transport Authority for the boroughs of Fareham and Gosport has developed a draft Transport Strategy and Action Plan setting out proposed transport improvements in the Fareham and Gosport areas up to 2050.

With the Swordfish business park traffic using the Gosport Road access, it will be important for those walking, wheeling and cycling to be able to access the Queen Elizabeth Park, the Marks Road play park and the SUPs towards Peel Common safely. Particularly at the daily school run times. Have your say to make sure this happens!

➡️ Latest news - Fareham Borough Council launches Active Travel Consultation

As part of its Town Centre Regeneration plans, Fareham Borough Council has today launched an Active Travel Consultation, seeking local people’s views on the barriers preventing them from walking, cycling or wheeling into and around the town centre.

The Council is working in partnership with Ethos Consultants to deliver this six-week consultation, which will now run until 22 July, giving residents, businesses, and visitors the opportunity to share their experiences.

The Active Travel Consultation will focus on understanding what prevents people from walking, cycling or wheeling (using a mobility scooter or wheelchair) into the town centre. Feedback gathered will help shape proposals for improvements that make active travel safer, easier and more attractive, encouraging more people to choose healthier and more sustainable ways to get around.

There will also be some in-person engagement opportunities, ensuring a broad and representative range of views is captured. These include:

• Monday 15th June – Fareham Leisure Centre, 2pm–4pm
• Tuesday 16th June – The Courtyard (FSC), 11am–2pm
• Thursday 18th June – The Courtyard, 10am–1pm
• Saturday 20th June – 999 Day, 10am–2pm

How to improve access to Fareham town centre - a core part of the current regeneration plan. Relax the no cycling restriction along West Street; particularly important for the less mobile (Wi******er has a pedestrian and cycling zone). Remove the no cycling restriction on Westbury Road and improve pedestrian and mobility scooter access via Palmerston Ave. This would give direct access to the town centre from the north rather than the busy LCWIP route via Osborn Road

Two new pedestrian crossings are to be installed on Brook Lane, Park Gate, to the north and south of the community hospital entrance. A small gain in safety, mainly due to the build outs at the crossings, which it is hoped, will reduce vehicle speeds near the hospital and surgery entrances.
There are still the narrow paths for pedestrians to contend with.
Better to reconfigure the hospital entrance with suitable crossings to slow traffic?
The dropped kerbs to the Hollybrook Gardens footpath are already in place

Funtley Hill M27 underpass. The underpass has been reconfigured to accommodate the re-routed bridle path and access lost as a result of the new M27 junction for Welborne Garden Village.
It provides a shared use path for pedestrians, cyclists, equine and other non motorised users.
Priority for vehicles using the road (not right of way) is for vehicles travelling down the hill. Cyclists travelling up the hill can use the dropped kerb access points to use the SUP under the motorway.
