Farnborough Airport is proud to sponsor this year’s Armed Forces Day National Event in partnership with Rushmoor Borough Council, taking place on the 27th and 28th June. We’re committed to supporting those who serve, and the wider military community, reinforced by our pledge to the Armed Forces Covenant.

With only 100 days to go, over 200 local schoolchildren joined Rushmoor Borough Council to mark the countdown to the event.
It’s expected to be a weekend of spectacular events and celebrations, aiming to bring the local community together and to honour the history and service of the Armed Forces community.

Last week we welcomed The Community Matters Partnership (CMP) to the Airport for the third year of their RAISE (Raising Aspirations, Inspiring, Supporting and Encouraging) initiative. RAISE aims to promote aspirations in young people and provide valuable insight into working life through a series of workplace visits.

The first visit of this year’s programme took place at Farnborough Airport, where students from Tomlinscote School had the opportunity to meet with employees from a range of teams, and experience firsthand the range of skills and career pathways available at the Airport.

Farnborough Airport is proud of its incredible history, a legacy that shapes who we are today, while playing an active role in building the future of aviation.

As part of National Careers Week, we were delighted to welcome Year Six pupils from Tower Hill Primary, our closest neighbouring school, for a behind the scenes look at how the airport operates. They explored a wide range of careers that keep an airport moving, and even put their skills to the test with a paper aeroplane throwing contest in the hangar.

Inspiring the next generation of aviation professionals is something we're passionate about, and it was fantastic to see such enthusiasm throughout the visit. We look forward to seeing where their ambitions will take them in the future.

Our apprenticeship programme is a key part of our ambition to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals. Our Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability Apprentice, Faye, is a great example of the impact apprenticeships can have.

“My apprenticeship at Farnborough Airport has been an amazing introduction into the professional world,” said Faye. “It’s taught me valuable skills in communication, teamwork, and adaptability. In the last six months, my self-confidence has grown immensely. This has all been thanks to my colleagues across the Airport who have provided me with an inspiring amount of support, guidance, and opportunity. Looking to the future, I feel well equipped for a successful career within aviation.”

Last week, we wrapped up our Certificate in Airport Operations Course in partnership with Farnborough College of Technology (FCoT), with an exciting final few days that brought together real-world insight and hands-on experiences.

Students enjoyed an engaging session with our Operations team, followed by a tour with RJA Security, the Airport’s security provider, where they learnt about the intricacies of a live airport environment firsthand.

To mark the end of the course, we were proud to host a certificate ceremony to highlight the students’ achievements. We look forward to seeing where their journeys in aviation take them and we remain committed to creating opportunities that help support pathways into meaningful, long-term careers in the aviation industry.

The event was an inspiring showcase of the strength, resilience, and togetherness of our local community, with participants of all ages and abilities coming together to run, support one another and share in the experience.
