As part of Farnborough Airport's goal to contribute over 500 volunteer hours in 2026, members of our team recently spent a rewarding day with The Basingstoke Canal Society at Ash Lock in Aldershot. To keep the canal thriving for future generations, the Basingstoke Canal Society relies on the support of its members and volunteers.

The Airport team spent the day repainting the lock, clearing shrubs along the towpath, and collecting litter, helping to keep the canal a welcoming place for both people and wildlife.

A big thank you to Basingstoke Canal Society for welcoming our team and for the outstanding work they do to preserve this local asset. Those looking to get involved can support through annual membership, which includes regular newsletter updates, member only social events and opportunities to volunteer.

We were proud to sponsor the National Armed Forces Day event last weekend, held at the heart of our local community.

As a signatory of the Armed Forces Covenant, the event provided a fantastic opportunity to meet and speak with serving personnel, veterans, and their families, and to share more about how we support this community through the opportunities we offer.

We were delighted to host the FAST Museum, custodians of the Airport’s rich heritage and history, and Reading Force, a charity who are passionate about using books to bring children and families closer together, on our stand throughout the weekend.

Their support helped create a memorable event and highlighted the strong connections between aviation and our Armed Forces community.

Inviting schools to visit the Airport is a big part of our efforts to inspire the next generation of aviation professionals. This week, we were pleased to host a tour for students from Cove School, who visited our hangar spaces, and had an interactive session learning about the variety of roles available at the Airport.

When asked about the visit, Library Manager, Jacqui Powell, said: “With Farnborough Airport being one of the largest employment sites locally, it was a brilliant opportunity for our pupils to see firsthand how it operates and be inspired by the wide variety of careers it can offer.”

Farnborough Airport is excited to be part of Armed Forces Day National Event in partnership with Rushmoor Borough Council, taking place this weekend. As a proud sponsor of this year’s national event, we’re looking forward to joining the celebrations and recognising the incredible contribution of those who serve and who have served in the Armed Forces.
