This came in yesterday, new customer who wanted a standard sweep. It’s fair to say they left it a bit long, and are lucky they hadn’t had a chimney fire. Two hours of cleaning later, with continued creosote removal treatment and a re-visit in one month to see if cleared. Creosote is the enemy of chimneys and highly inflammable. It’s essential to get regular cleaning & servicing or you might get a visit from the local fire service. 🚒

On Sunday the 17th of May 2026, I'm riding in The Distinguished Gentleman's Ride with fellow men and women across the globe to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer and men's mental health on behalf of Movember. Men die on average 6 years earlier than women and for largely preventable reasons. The number of men that are suffering is growing, and we need to do something about that. Cosy nights and crackling fires are a welcome comfort on colder evenings but it’s important to use them safely.

If your log burner or open fire is back in use, make sure your chimney has been swept and your appliance properly serviced to help reduce the risk of chimney fires.

Keep logs, coal and other fuels stored well away from the heat, and always use a spark guard to stop embers escaping.

Don’t let a preventable chimney fire undo the comfort of your evening.

Today we conducted a full inspection investigation into a leaking chimney. Residents reported excessive water ingress into bedroom after a chimney roof repair by a local contractor. Taking about 2 hours we were able to establish a few serious faults which had been poorly installed. Using a 4k Drone, 4k cctv camera, FLIR thermal imaging system, moisture meter, 4k borescope etc. We discovered holes, missing flashing and shoddy work. A trusted accredited roofing contractor is now carrying out an additional inspection and quote to repair.

We also clean chimneys connected to oil burners, this one was at a music school in Surrey. Working with the boiler engineers we were able to access the blocked chimney and clear, test and get the boiler working correctly.
