In 2016 I suddenly found the urge to attempt to break a world record, I am a keen cyclist however I was never built for speed but I have plenty of stamina so when I found the category for longest journey by cycle rickshaw I thought that this would be perfect. ost have been converted with electric motors and turned into Pedicabs but I managed to find one....in Wales, It had been used as a Cycle Pedicab in Oxford and was also used as a prop in an episode of Inspector Morse! It had a few photos posted online and over a phone conversation with the seller it sounded spot on and the best part was it was going to be delivered which saved me a trip to Wales! The delivery day finally arrived and so did the Rickshaw, exactly how I expected it to be apart from the weight! The Rickshaw is very heavy and on lifting it off the trailer it became clear that it was not going to be fit for my record attempt. As I was not going to be able to ride it for any significant distance we had to decide what to do with it but first it needed to be checked over. The carriage/cab was made of wood and steel with a canvas hood, on further investigation I discovered an auction receipt for the Carriage/Cab dating back to 1952. It appears that the Carriage/Cab was taken off an old Pony&Trap and at a later date someone attached it to a converted Mountain Bike Frame, fitted hydraulic disc brakes which can stop up to 500 kg and an antique bell! It was decided that we would get the Rickshaw up and running again so after a lick of paint and mechanical inspection it was ready to roll! The Rickshaw is available for Wedding Transport, School Proms and advertising.
