Knowing where your cargo is matters.

Knowing what’s happening with it matters even more.

Tracking information can tell you where a shipment is, but good communication gives you the context behind it.

Has the sailing changed? Is everything in place for customs clearance? Has onward transport been arranged? Is the shipment still expected to arrive when planned?

For businesses relying on goods arriving at the right time, having those answers can be just as important as knowing the location of the cargo itself.

That’s why communication remains such an important part of freight forwarding.
At Grange Shipping, we believe our customers should be kept informed throughout the journey, with an experienced team available to answer questions, provide updates and deal with any changes that arise.

Good visibility isn't simply about tracking a shipment. It's about having the information you need to plan what happens next.

Your cargo has missed its planned sailing. What happens next?

It's frustrating, but it doesn't necessarily mean everything has to grind to a halt.

The next step is understanding the options available. That could mean looking at the next suitable sailing, exploring an alternative carrier or route, reviewing onward transport arrangements and understanding how any change could affect the rest of the journey.

It's also where good communication becomes particularly important. Knowing what's happened, what the alternatives are and how the situation is being managed gives you the information you need to plan accordingly.

Good freight forwarding isn't about promising that plans will never change. It's about knowing what to do when they do.

Our team works closely with customers and our network of partners to find practical solutions and keep cargo moving when the original plan changes.

How far in advance should you book your freight?

Unfortunately, there isn't one simple answer.

The right timeframe can depend on where your cargo is travelling, the transport mode you're using, available capacity, the time of year and any specific requirements surrounding the shipment.

A routine European road movement may require a very different approach to an international sea freight shipment or a piece of specialist project cargo.

One thing that does remain consistent is that having the conversation earlier usually gives us more time to understand your requirements and explore the options available.

Get in touch with our team and we can start looking at the options with you.

What does your freight forwarder actually do?

A freight forwarder doesn't necessarily own the ship, plane or lorry moving your goods. So, what exactly is their role?

In reality, physically moving your cargo is only one part of the process.

A freight forwarder brings the different stages of a shipment together. That can mean understanding your requirements, finding the right transport options, coordinating with carriers and hauliers, managing documentation and customs requirements, monitoring progress and stepping in when plans change.

There can be a lot of moving parts between collection and final delivery, often involving several different organisations along the way.

Our job at Grange Shipping is to bring those pieces together, giving our customers an experienced point of contact throughout the process and helping make international shipping that little bit simpler!

September has a habit of arriving very quickly in logistics.

As businesses across Europe return from summer shutdowns and reduced schedules, September often brings a noticeable shift in pace.

Production picks back up, orders start moving, collections increase and, before long, Q4 is well underway.
If you already know September is going to be a busy month, getting ahead now gives you more time to understand your requirements, consider the available options and put plans in place before things start moving at full speed again.

You don't necessarily need to be ready to book either. An early conversation about what's coming up can be enough to get the ball rolling.

If September is looking busy for your business, get in touch with our team and let's start planning 👇
