Today is an emotional and proud day for your mustard maker. Exactly nine years ago, a wild dream became reality. I sold the very first jars of my mustard.

Looking back at those days, I could never have imagined this incredible journey. When I first started, many people thought creating an artisan mustard business on the edge of the Atlantic was an eccentric idea… and I can still see some of those rolling eyeballs! But there was a vision: to create something pure, authentic and deeply connected. Today, the Mustheb jars travel from our small island community to food lovers all over the world.

People often ask me how a tiny, independent business survives and thrives for nearly a decade. For me, the answer has always been simple: stay true to yourself and never compromise on quality.

Every Jar is Personal: To this day, I still run this as a true small-batch, hands-on operation. The rhyth of my traditional granite stone mill grinding the organic seeds is the heartbeat of my kitchen. Every single jar is filled, sealed and labelled by my own hands.

Purely Organic: I have always refused to use artificial preservatives, fillers or fake flavours. Instead, I pair 100% organic mustard seeds with the finest ingredients I can source and a dash of my wild inspiration.

From day one, I wanted to push the boundaries of what mustard could be. Creating bold, unusual flavours like Slàinte Liquorice (which pairs so beautifully with smoked fish) or the gentle fiery Infernal Bliss was a gamble, but your adventurous palates proved me right! You didn't just want a condiment; you want a culinary experience.

To be recognised over the years with food awards, and even to be named one of the UK’s Top 100 Female Entrepreneurs, has been deeply humbling. But nothing compares to the joy of seeing someone smile when they taste my creations for the first time, leaving the mustard station with a "hmmmm, that was incredible!" on their lips.

Nine years in business is a beautiful milestone, but I didn't reach it alone. This anniversary belongs to all of you. Thank you to my neighbourhood who supported me from day one, to the locals who spread the mustard and the word, to the island visitors who stop by the iconic mustard shack at the roadside in Leverburgh and to my wonderful online community who order from afar. You are the reason my stone mill keeps grinding.

Thank you for being a part of my story and here is to many more years of peace, love & mustard from the Isle of Harris!

If you’ve been following this channel for a while, you know already that your mustard maker loves people in general and children all the more.

When Esme’s mum got out of the car, she pointed behind her and said, ‘I’ve got a mustard-obsessed one with me.’ And then Esme (left) came and smiled at me. Together with her friend Freya she tasted her way through the mustards and Esme’s eyes grew wider with every variety. 💛

They’re both nine years old and I think it’s brilliant when children are constantly encouraged to try new things. To that end, dear parents, you too must keep an open mind and must never project your own likes or dislikes onto your children ;-)

Here’s to all the wonderful children in this world. The world is yours!

Whilst her husband was hiking Ceapabhal, lovely Safina came around to sample the mustards. Having Pakistani and Indian roots (her grandparents emigrated to the UK in the 1950s), she praised Mustheb's Taste of India 'as a Taste of India' and was able to identify almost all of the 15 spices it contains… well, that makes your mustard maker rather proud. 💛

Darryl was here in July and had a mustard tasting. He took some mustards home to Ireland. Darryl is a chef and now have a look what he used the mustard for:

Slàinte liquorice glazed duck breast, root vegetable daupinoise with Garlic Galore infused in cream. Fennel and green apple purée and a black cherry, blackberry, star anise and port jus. Wilted spinach and Bellaverde broccoli. 😋 💛

Be like Darryl, come for a tasting, take home some mustards, create something that really makes your own mouth watering and send your mustard maker a picture and short description.

Tasting at the Mustard Station Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11-4

Benoît, Magalit, Zoé, Élisa and Tom from near Toulon will spread the Mustheb love in France. I think I’ve said it more than once already: Your mustard maker loves meeting you all in person and I love international encounters, even if my French teacher would probably throw his hands up in horror at how little remains of all his efforts to teach me this beautiful language. But in the end we managed brilliantly with gestures, a bit of German and a bit of English.

Bon Voyage 💛
