This bank holiday weekend we attended the Swithland Brook Summer Diesel Gala 2026 with 4 members of our resident diesel locomotive fleet, These were Class 26 D5301 "Eastfield" which was operating it's first ever passenger services in over 2 years, Class 33 D6551, Class 37 37043 "Loch Lomond" and Class 42 D816 "Eclipse" . This gala was also the first event D816 attended away from its home turf at the Trundley Close Railway Centre .

All in all our 4 diesels operated well with no failures. 37043s left hand snowplough was repaired prior to the event restoring it's rather beefy appearance. We shall keep our door open for hopefully some more future appearances to the Swithland Brook Model Railway for events. We thank our friends in Leicester for inviting us to this amazing event. Our class 26 D5301 "Eastfield" is currently away on loan to Swithland Brook until our summer diesel gala event which is to take place on the 11th to 13th September 2026 to bid farewell to the Trundley Close Summer Season of 2026.

We look forward to announcing the visiting locomotives for the event very soon!

Photo Dump: English Electric Running Day 26/08/2026..

We have had a brilliant day here at the Trundley Close Railway Centre running classic English Electric workhorses for what could be considered a mini gala. Starting with Class 31 31108 kicking off the event and finishing with the 'Triple Choppers' consisting of Class 20s 20227, 20133 and 20023 a formation that hasn't been seen since 2018!

This was also the final running day for visiting Class 20 D8102 as the Locomotive is off to attend a gala this weekend in Leicester where it shall stay for a few months on loan before returning back home to Faversham in Kent. We have thoroughly enjoyed having the loco with us these past couple of months. Until the next time farewell D8102.

Class 40 40164 has failed (Replaced with 37905) ...

We regret to inform that our resident class 40 40164 is not fit to run on today's English Electric running day. But do not threat as we have a replacement in the form of visiting Class 37/9 37905 "Vulcan Enterprise" . Even though not strictly English Electric, this locomotive was originally an English Electric design and converted to a Ruston Engine for experimental purposes. I think it's safe to say this locomotive is a suitable replacement and at the very least gives enthusiasts extended haulage behind this visiting locomotive while it stays with us for the rest of the summer.

Happy 10 years to the Trundley Close Railway Centre. It's hard to believe it's been operating for a decade now, the 10 + 1 Year Anniversary Mixed Traction Gala was a blast over the weekend and for what was looking to be worrying that it wouldn't happen we finally managed to have the 10 year celebration that it deserved!

Thank you to our visitors Jordan Deveson from Faversham and Simon Veasey from Thurston, Also an honourable mention goes to Daniel Wyatt in Birmingham. This 10 year anniversary gala wouldn't of been able to happen if it wasn't for all 3 of you supplying your fantastic visiting locomotives to attend the event.

10th Anniversary Gala Day 1: Kick Off....

It's day 1 of 2 celebrating 10 + 1 years of the Trundley Close Railway Centre, The first train out of Oakham is at 08:30am hauled by resident Class 40 40164. This class 40 was our first official DCC Sound locomotive and it seemed fitting that this should be the opener of the Trundley Close 10 Year Anniversary celebration event.
