Recovery is possible, recovery is beautiful and there is a better life waiting on the other side of addiction." πŸ’œ

In November 2024, local musician Cal Ruddy hit what he describes as rock bottom after being hospitalised for the fifth time in a year because of alcohol dependency.

Today, he's nearly two years alcohol-free, creating music, writing songs and using his experiences to inspire others.

Cal says recovery has given him "a fresh new chapter in my life", helping him become happier, healthier and more creative than ever before.
Now he's bringing that story, and his music, to Recovery Fest 2026, where he'll be performing live at 3.30pm on the 10th of September in Birkenhead Market.

Speaking about the event, Cal said:
"Music and songwriting has been a therapeutic way for me to navigate my recovery journey. I'm incredibly happy to be involved in this wonderful community event here on the Wirral, give back to services that have helped me along the way and make a difference to people no matter what stage they're at.

Quitting drinking has allowed me the freedom to be my authentic self without the mask of alcohol."

Recovery Fest is a day to celebrate the people, stories and communities that show addiction doesn't have to define someone's future.
Whether you're making changes in your own life, supporting someone else, or simply want to learn more, everyone is welcome.

Open House : Choices Rehabs
In the last decade, around 50% of residential services in England have closed.

Residential treatment is an effective part of the drug and alcohol treatment system, particularly when it sits alongside detox, community treatment, housing and aftercare.

So while Open Houses is about opening the doors and inviting people to see residential services for themselves, it’s also about something bigger.

It’s about understanding the value of residential treatment, challenging some of the assumptions around rehab, and thinking about what we need to do to protect and strengthen its future.

This September, services across England are opening their doors. Come inside. Ask questions. Meet the people at the heart of recovery. And see what residential treatment can offer.

Please let me know if you have a keen interest in recovery and would like to attend.
