🌊 ANOTHER LUNDY LOOP COMPLETED! 🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️
Yesterday saw another successful Lundy Loop, with 8 adventurous swimmers taking on the incredible challenge of swimming 13km around Lundy Island! 💪
Supported by the Lundy Diving crew and three sea kayaks, every single swimmer absolutely smashed it!
And they weren’t the only ones enjoying the adventure… 🦭 The seals clearly didn’t know what was going on, joining our swimmers and accompanying them around the island!
What a day! Incredible determination, big smiles, tired arms and some absolutely massive personal achievements.
A huge congratulations to all eight swimmers. You should be incredibly proud of yourselves! 👏
And a massive thank you to our kayak support team and crew for helping make another Lundy Loop possible.
13km. One incredible island. Eight amazing swimmers. Memories to last a lifetime. 💙

🦭💕 LOVE IS IN THE AIR… OR SHOULD WE SAY WATER?!

Did you know October falls during the grey seal breeding season around Lundy?

This time of year brings some fascinating changes to our resident seals!

The males can become more territorial as they compete for females, while mums are busy caring for their pups in sheltered areas around the island.

It’s a completely different side to the playful, curious seals we often see throughout the summer.

We love sharing the incredible wildlife of Lundy with our passengers, and autumn gives us another opportunity to appreciate just how special this island really is.

Of course, this is also a particularly important time to give the seals their space, so all wildlife watching is carried out respectfully and in accordance with Lundy’s Seal Code of Conduct.

October is one of our favourite times of year to visit Lundy, and here’s why…

🌊 The sea is still holding onto its summer warmth!

While the air might be getting a little cooler, the sea has spent all summer warming up, meaning September and October can offer some of the loveliest water temperatures of the year.

Today we said goodbye to a very special part of Ilfracombe’s maritime family. 💙🧡

Since 2015, Ilfracombe’s Shannon class lifeboat has been proudly serving our community, and today she left our harbour to continue her lifesaving service elsewhere.
In 2015, Andrew had the honour of bringing her into Ilfracombe, marking an exciting new chapter for our local RNLI station. Today, in a rather poignant full-circle moment, Carl had the honour of taking her away.

Leigh took Obsession out to wave her goodbye and thank her for her years of service, with Dawn onboard for her annual trip out to sea! And Ben was already down Lundy

As many of you know, the RNLI holds a very special place in the hearts of the Lundy Diving family. Many of our crew are also part of the RNLI, with over 150 years of combined service between them.

For us, today was more than just saying goodbye to a lifeboat. It was a moment to reflect on the lives she has helped save, the crews who have served aboard her, the memories made and the people who have been part of her journey.

Thank you for your service. Fair winds and following seas, and may you continue to bring your crews safely home. 💙⚓

🌿 Have you spotted the Lundy Cabbage? 🌿

Lundy might be famous for its seals, puffins and incredible underwater wildlife, but there’s something rather special growing on the island too!

The Lundy Cabbage (Coincya wrightii) is found nowhere else in the world — it’s completely unique to Lundy. 💚

Growing on the island’s cliffs and rocky slopes, this rare plant is one of the things that makes Lundy’s wildlife so extraordinary. And it doesn’t stop there… the cabbage even has its own specialist insects associated with it, including the Lundy cabbage flea beetle!

It’s easy to spend a day on Lundy looking out to sea for dolphins, seals and seabirds, but sometimes some of the island’s most remarkable wildlife is right beneath your feet. 🌱

Another little reminder of just how special this tiny island in the Bristol Channel really is.
