Information from Northern

Reduced train plan in place for extreme weather

Following weather reviews, we have implemented a reduced train plan across the Northern network from Tuesday 23 to Thursday 25 June. These changes are being put in place to maintain reliable operations during the period of extreme heat expected over the next few days. All routes will continue to operate, however some lines will see fewer services than normal.

This decision has been carefully considered and is being taken to address the extreme heat forecast across the network, an increased risk to fleet performance and availability in high temperatures, and Network Rail route restrictions reducing service frequency on some lines.

We have issued travel advice to customers, reminding them to check before they travel, and to expect busier services when they do travel with us. We also recommend they allow additional time for their journeys, bring water with them to stay hydrated and, to avoid boarding a train and seek assistance from colleagues if they feel unwell.

The following routes will have significantly fewer services and higher demand:

β€’ Manchester Piccadilly – Alderley Edge

β€’ Wilmslow – Crewe

β€’ Southport – Wigan

β€’ Manchester Piccadilly – Manchester Airport

β€’ Warrington Central – Liverpool Lime Street

β€’ Manchester Piccadilly – New Mills

β€’ York – Leeds (via Harrogate)

β€’ Sheffield – Leeds

β€’ Todmorden – Manchester Victoria

β€’ Manchester Victoria – Blackburn

β€’ Manchester Piccadilly – Hadfield

We will continue to monitor conditions and may make further changes, if required.
