This week marks 39 years since Operation Deep Scan — one of the most ambitious searches ever carried out for the Loch Ness Monster.
Back in October 1987, a flotilla of around 24 Caley boats equipped with sonar took to Loch Ness, forming a huge sonar curtain and sweeping the loch in an attempt to detect anything unusual beneath the surface.
The operation produced several intriguing sonar contacts, including three strong underwater targets that could not be conclusively explained. No proof of Nessie was found, but the results certainly kept the mystery alive!
It was quite an event at the time, attracting huge media attention from around the world.
Does anyone remember Operation Deep Scan?
Did anyone watch it unfold, visit Loch Ness at the time, or even better take part in the operation?
We would love to hear your memories, stories or photographs from 1987.
Keep an eye out for something special happening for the 40th anniversary👀
