Another fabulous day trip from Murcia โ€” this time to Alicante, and WOWโ€ฆ we absolutely loved it! ๐Ÿ˜

Just an hour away by train, and once again the journey was so comfortable, taking us right into the heart of the city. ๐Ÿš†

Our first stop was the Castillo de Santa Bรกrbara, a spectacular 9th-century medieval fortress sitting high above Alicante. ๐Ÿฐ

It was around a 20-minute walk to get there, followed by a hard climb in 30ยฐC heat ๐Ÿฅต๐Ÿ˜‚ but the panoramic views across the Mediterranean, port, beach and city were simply STUNNING! ๐ŸŒŠโ˜€๏ธ

The castle grounds are free to access and were absolutely fabulous โ€” definitely worth the climb! ๐Ÿ™Œ

We then wandered through the beautiful Barrio de Santa Cruz, with its narrow, colourful streets, pretty whitewashed houses and gorgeous little corners to discover. ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿก

๐Ÿฝ๏ธ We stopped for a lovely lunch on the Explanada de Espaรฑa, before strolling along this iconic palm-lined marble promenade, decorated with millions of beautiful wavy, three-coloured mosaic tiles. ๐ŸŒด

๐Ÿ„ Then it was off to Calle de las Setas (Mushroom Street) โ€” such a quirky and fun pedestrian street, lined with giant colourful mushrooms, cafรฉs and shops. Definitely one for the photos! ๐Ÿ“ธ

We also took in the sights of all the beautiful yachts in the marinaโ€ฆ maybe one day! ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ›ฅ๏ธ

Then it was time to cool down with a lovely walk along Playa del Postiguet ๐Ÿ–๏ธ followed, of course, by a few cocktails in the sunshine at a beach bar! ๐Ÿนโ˜€๏ธ

To round off our day, we enjoyed a lovely dinner at Spiga in the historic centre before making our way back towards the station.

With the last train home at 10pm, there was just enough time for another couple of drinks on the way! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿธ

And the best part? The return train was less than โ‚ฌ20! ๐Ÿš†โค๏ธ

We absolutely loved Alicante and would definitely go back. Itโ€™s another great example of how easy it is to combine a city break AND a beach holiday in one trip. ๐Ÿ‡ช๐Ÿ‡ธ๐ŸŒŠโ˜€๏ธ
