Round 1 & 2 of the Wera Tools British Kart Championships got off to a strong start. After the disappointment of last year it was great to come back fighting.
Saturday couldn’t have gone much better. We secured pole position in qualifying and followed it up with two P3 finishes in the heats. That consistency meant we came away with maximum points, putting us on pole for the final. We went on to take the win—an ideal way to start the championship. To top it off, we also set the fastest lap of the entire event, showing the outright pace was there.
Sunday proved more challenging with the introduction of a new qualifying format, requiring two fast laps to determine grid positions for both heats. In the first heat, we started P2 and finished P2 with a solid drive. The second heat was tougher; starting P7, we got caught up in traffic and dropped back to P13.
That left us starting P6 for the final. In a tightly packed and highly competitive field, track position was crucial. Unfortunately, we got caught in battles ahead and couldn’t make the progress needed, finishing P9. It was one of those races where small margins and track position made all the difference.
Overall, a very positive opening weekend with a win, fastest lap of the event, and strong points on the board putting us P2 overall in the championship (just 1 point off the leader).
A big thanks to our chassis provider Piers at Project One Racing Group for backing the privateers and setting a challenge across the P1 chassis runners—we were proud to come out on top in that for Round 1.
Also to Tornado Racing Engines for being present and supporting all the drivers running their engines—it makes a real difference having that level of support at the track.
Massive credit to my dad for running everything himself—doing it as privateers makes results like this even bigger.
