Team Curve - always learning!

This week, our trainers Greg and Jordan along with our office team Julie and Rachel, were on their First Aid level 3 refresher course. Delivered by Catherine, an amazing trainer with St John Ambulance for over 6 years, the course combined practical elements and theory. Catherine's abundance of experience makes the course fun and enjoyable, and our team got a lot from it.

This week in training: PO (Points Operator) Assessment at Fortwilliam Depot

Here are some pictures from site of Scott, as PO, who was responsible for setting the route for one Road Rail Vehicle before checking the route and moving into a POS to allow the movement to happen.

Scott was also carrying out the role of PICOP on the night (Person in Charge of Possession) so was taking instruction from himself. As a PO you always work to the instruction of the individual who appointed you and it's vital to ensure messages are repeated back to confirm understanding before any movements through points are permitted.

When finished with the equipment, the points have to be left in the position they were found, scotch and clips removed, button pushed in and box locked to allow the controlling signal cabin to regain all normal indication in the cabin and vitally test the points on possession hand-back.

So as you can tell, a detailed and thorough assessment. Well done to Scott for handling it all so smoothly and to Greg Gibson, our Curve assessor on the night.

Kathleen Faloon was delighted to represent Curve at yesterday's launch of 'Rail Cool Rules' by Translink, in partnership with Rail Safe Friendly.

This initiative has been designed to create awareness for school children about staying safe around the rail infrastructure here in NI.

We enjoyed a fantastic performance by Oakwood Integrated PS, well done to all the children! Plus informative speeches by Donna Traynor, Chris Conway and an interesting panel discussion. Thanks for the invite and great to see so many colleagues and suppliers from across the industry.

It's teaching week here at Curve and Greg Gibson is busy taking the City & Guilds Rail Engineering Apprentices through their Engineering Technology Principles module.

The rulers and calculators are out with Pythagoras Theorem being the key theme of this week's learning outcomes. 😝🥸
