Tonight it's England v Croatia, so we're looking at one of Liverpool's fascinating Croatian connections.

In 1870, Nikola Primorac arrived in Liverpool from Dubrovnik in search of some new maritime opportunities. Before settling here, he achieved something extraordinary, he crossed the Atlantic to America and back in a tiny 20ft lifeboat called The City of Ragusa, accompanied by his faithful Bull Terrier dog Boswain.

After returning in 1871, Nikola made Liverpool his home and became a tobacconist at 56 Duke Street. This building still serves the city as a convenience store today.

Stories like Nikola's remind us how Liverpool's history has always been shaped by people, trade and connections from across the world.
