Llangollen Railway takes you on a stunning scenic journey through the beautiful Dee Valley between Llangollen and Corwen, using our fleet of heritage steam and diesel locomotives, vintage coaching stock and railcars. Step aboard one of our steam or diesel hauled trains to experience the beautiful Dee Valley! We operate Steam, Diesel, and Heritage Railcar services between the towns of Llangollen an

d Carrog, we also stop at Berwyn, Glyndyfrdwy and Carrog. All of our charming stations give you access to explore the picturesque Dee Valley. There is a wide variety of walks and attractions nearby, you could even get a bite to eat from our refreshment rooms!

- Llangollen station is located beside the historic Dee Bridge (built in 1345) in the centre of the bustling town.
- Our stunning station at Berwyn is a gateway to the Horseshoe falls - the start point of the Llangollen canal - and has been restored to its 1930s GWR condition.
- Glyndyfrdwy has links to Owain Glyndwr and its station features a traditional level crossing, it's a great place to watch the signalman control the trains!
- Carrog has been lovingly restored to its 1950s condition and boasts a refreshment room and car park.
- Our new station in Corwen will be in the heart of the town, where you can explore the Corwen Museum or the Candle Workshop. Our line follows the River Dee - a Site of Special Scientific Interest - and originally ran from Ruabon to Barmouth. Llangollen Railway offers a sample of the sights and sounds of yesteryear whilst travelling through some of the best natural scenery in North Wales. The Dee Valley is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and the views from your carriage are fantastic and ever-changing. 🚂❤️ IT’S AMAZING THE CHARACTERS YOU MEET ON THE RAILWAY...

One of the great things about Llangollen and Corwen Railway is the people you meet, and today we had the pleasure of welcoming John Gregory and his sons.

John, from Saltley near Birmingham, has quite a railway story to tell.

He first started out on the railways at just 15 years old. He went on to become a fireman before achieving something many young railwaymen dreamed of, becoming a steam locomotive driver at the age of just 23.

Railways have been part of John’s life ever since.

Today was a little more relaxed!

John and his sons spent time meeting some of our volunteers and were given a tour of our MPD sheds at Llangollen, where there was naturally plenty of railway conversation.

They then climbed aboard one of our Heritage Railcars for the journey up to Corwen, enjoying some of the finest views of our remarkable Dee Valley along the way.

There is something rather special about welcoming someone who has spent a lifetime around railways to ours. The locomotives change, the uniforms change and the years pass, but that enthusiasm for the railway never really leaves you.

We’ve invited John back to see us on a weekend when the steam locomotives are running.

There was just one condition...

🚂🔧 DAY THREE... AND AARON IS ALREADY GETTING STUCK IN!

Earlier this week, we promised we’d keep you updated as our new apprentices begin their journey at Llangollen and Corwen Railway.

Well, it’s only Day Three, and Aaron is already getting his hands dirty!

Today he has been working under the watchful eyes of Nigel Day and Railway Director Paul Aston, and what an opportunity to learn from two people with an extraordinary amount of steam locomotive experience between them.

Nigel is a hugely respected figure in the world of modern steam engineering. His career has taken him from the Snowdon Mountain Railway to steam railways around the world, specialising in locomotive improvements and particularly Lempor exhaust systems.

Paul, meanwhile, played an active role in multiple overhauls of one of Britain's most famous steam locomotives, LNER Class A4 No. 60007 Sir Nigel Gresley.

And after just three days at the Railway, Aaron has been trusted to weld part of the Lempor Exhaust System expertly machined by Nigel himself.

What an honour, and what an opportunity for a young apprentice starting out in railway engineering.

This is exactly why apprenticeships matter.

Heritage railways aren't just about preserving locomotives. They're about preserving the skills, knowledge and craftsmanship needed to keep them running, and passing those skills from one generation to the next.

Three days ago, Aaron walked through our workshop doors as one of our newest apprentices.

Today, he’s welding components alongside people who have spent decades working with steam locomotives.

Not bad for Day Three! 🔥🔧🚂

🚃🎶 WHEN YOUR GUARD STARTS THE DAY WITH A SINGALONG...

There are worse ways to start a Thursday morning at Llangollen and Corwen Railway!

Today we’re running our three-train Heritage Railcar service through the beautiful Dee Valley, and our Guard for the day is none other than award-winning singer Shea Ferron from John’s Boys! 🎶

He started his day at Llangollen Station doing what he does best, leading David and Derek in a singalong of Delilah! 😂🎤

And now it’s time for the serious business of running a Railway...

Our 10am Heritage Railcar has left Llangollen and will shortly be arriving in Corwen, but there are still two more opportunities to join us today.

😂🚂 WHEN A “GENERAL KNOWLEDGE” QUIZ ISN’T QUITE AS GENERAL AS YOU THOUGHT... 🎺🤔

Meet Michael Catherall, today’s Travelling Ticket Inspector and, as many people across Wales will know, a rather accomplished quizzer. 🧠🏆

So naturally, we decided to put him to the test.

We selected three completely “random” general knowledge questions for Michael to answer.

There was just one tiny catch...

🎺 Every single question was about BRASS BANDS. 😂

Pure coincidence, obviously. Nothing whatsoever to do with our recent announcement that the City of Chester Bluecoat Band will be joining us to launch our Santa Specials on Saturday 28th November...

And certainly nothing to do with our very own Les Platt, who has been a member of the band since 1981! 👀🎺

So, when one of Wales’ noted quizzers takes on three suspiciously brass-band-related questions...

🚂🔥 WE’RE GEARING UP FOR THE BIG ONE...

The Railway is now really gearing up for our 50th Anniversary Finale on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 September, and this is going to be anything but an ordinary weekend!

We’ll be running an incredible 14 train journeys each day, with an intensive timetable designed to showcase the very best of the Llangollen and Corwen Railway.

🛤️ Unusual workings and plenty of railway action

This really will be a high-octane weekend of intensive services, with trains moving up and down the Dee Valley throughout both days.

We’ll be issuing special 50th Anniversary Passports on both days.

Every time you travel on one of the 14 services, you’ll need to get your passport signed by the TTI on board that service. Your mission is simple: collect all 14 signatures and complete the challenge!

🚂🔧 THE FUTURE OF OUR RAILWAY STARTS HERE

Today was a pretty special day at Llangollen and Corwen Railway as we welcomed Aaron and Ethan, who have officially started their apprenticeships with us.

Both are Level 3 students from Coleg Cambria, and over the next two years they will be learning, developing their skills and getting hands-on experience here at the Railway.

And who better to welcome them on their first day than two people who represent the extraordinary experience we have within our Railway family?

They were welcomed by legendary locomotive driver and former Railway boss Dave Owen, alongside the hugely popular Les Stuffin, who has volunteered here for an incredible 39 years.

There is something rather special about that picture.

Decades of railway experience standing alongside the next generation.

Heritage railways cannot survive by simply preserving locomotives, carriages and stations. We have to preserve skills, knowledge and experience too. That means giving young people opportunities to learn from those who have spent decades keeping our Railway moving.

Arron and Ethan are at the beginning of their journey, and we're going to follow them over the next two years, sharing the highs, the challenges, the things they learn and the people they learn from.

They are not just apprentices.

They are part of the future of Llangollen and Corwen Railway.

Welcome aboard, Aaron and Ethan. You've got quite a journey ahead of you! 🚂🔧❤️

🚂💚 THE DEE VALLEY GREEN MACHINE IS AWAY!

Our first train of the day has left Llangollen and is making its way through the beautiful Dee Valley to Corwen.

Today it’s our Class 26 No. 5310 doing the honours, with plenty more opportunities to jump aboard this Bank Holiday Monday.
