A strong example of coordination and professionalism at sea 🚁⚓

During a routine exercise in the Dover Strait, a coastguard helicopter worked alongside one of our container vessels to carry out a rescue drill, including the controlled lowering of a rescue diver to the bridge wing before being safely recovered.

Exercises like these are a vital part of maintaining readiness at sea, helping ensure that crews and emergency services are fully prepared to work together when it matters most.

Ship propellers are traditionally designed around a vessel’s maximum service speed. However, under today’s EEXI and CII regulations, vessels travel at lower speeds and rarely reach those original design conditions.

This shift creates a clear opportunity to retrofit high‑efficiency propellers — modern, lighter designs optimised for reduced operating loads that deliver improved propulsion efficiency and lower fuel consumption at actual sailing speeds.

As part of Zodiac Maritime’s ongoing retrofit programme, we are enhancing our fleet’s energy performance by installing the latest generation propellers. Each propeller is tailored to the vessel’s operational profile, ensuring maximum efficiency under real sailing conditions.

Performance gains and power savings are validated through CFD‑based self‑propulsion analysis, confirming measurable improvements in vessel efficiency.

Our September 2025 cohort of UK cadets have sailed through Phase 1 of their maritime training, following the introduction of a modernised syllabus.

The updated syllabus was developed for UK cadets in line with recommendations in the Maritime Skills Commission’s 2021 Seafarer Cadet Review Report. It introduces simulation exercises right at the start of the cadetship programme, pairs theoretical learning with practical application, and places a greater emphasis on technology and digital competence.

One of our Deck Officer Cadets and Class Representative for Phase 1, Pushpit Bhardwaj, AKC, has especially enjoyed the bridge simulation and ECDIS (Electronic Chart Display and Information System) exercises that the new syllabus offers:

“I feel very lucky to be in the first cohort to follow the modernised syllabus. I’ve really enjoyed the range of bridge simulations, such as passage planning and monitoring using ECDIS, heavy weather navigation, and emergency response scenarios – it has helped bring my classroom learning to life!”

Pushpit is now on one of our tanker vessels as part of Phase 2 of his training, the First Sea Phase, where cadets apply their college learning across a range of onboard operations. We wish him and the rest of the cohort a successful Phase 2!

We’re pleased to be working with our specialist cadet management and training partner, Just Be Maritime, and maritime colleges across the UK, delivering the training programme, such as Warsash Maritime School where Pushpit studies.

We recently had the pleasure of welcoming a special guest to our London headquarters, following a dramatic rescue carried out by a Zodiac Maritime vessel in the Atlantic Ocean earlier this year.

Benoit Bourguet had been competing in the World’s Toughest Row – a gruelling 3,000 mile unsupported transatlantic rowing race from the Canary Islands to Antigua. Unfortunately, just days out from completing the challenge, his rowing boat was struck by two rogue waves in severe weather, capsizing him in the middle of the ocean.

Benoît found himself alone in a life raft, adrift in 4–5 metre seas and force 6–7 winds. His urgent distress call was subsequently relayed via the United States Coast Guard. Responding to the call, Zodiac Maritime’s tanker, MT Horten, immediately diverted over 100 miles through heavy seas to help. Manoeuvring a huge 333 metre, 300,000 DWT vessel next to the tiny life raft in extremely challenging conditions with exceptional skill and precision, MT Horten’s Master and crew successfully located, rescued and brought Benoit safely on board.

In a truly memorable meeting, our Chief Operating Officer, Tanuj Luthra, and Director of QHSSE, Ritesh Prakashan, had the privilege of sitting down with Benoît and his partner Laurence – hearing first-hand about his extraordinary Atlantic rowing journey and answering their questions about Zodiac Maritime and how the rescue was coordinated.

Following the rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard and the vessel’s flag state commended the MT Horten’s Master and crew for their professionalism, calm coordination and outstanding seamanship.

This rescue is powerful reminder of the enduring principle that mariners help mariners - in this case, one of the largest vessels on the seas helping one of the smallest.

A PCTC is a type of roll-on/roll-off (RoRo) ship designed to transport vehicles – cars, trucks, buses, and even heavy machinery – across oceans.

Today, our PCTCs are critical to the automotive supply chain, linking factories with markets across the globe.

The length of two football fields, our largest PCTCs can carry up to 7,500 vehicles at a time, delivering cars for some of the world’s leading manufacturers.

LNG fuel offers reductions in emissions, including NOₓ, SOₓ and particulates. At Zodiac Maritime, our dual‑fuel vessels support lower‑emission operations today, while enabling a credible pathway towards alternative fuels.

Captured by Christopher Carr, Second Officer in Zodiac Maritime’s container fleet, this video shows dolphins swimming ahead of the bow, keeping pace as the ship moves through the water. It’s a brilliant reminder of the environments our crews work in every day, and why protecting the ocean and the wildlife that depends on it matters.

Thank you to Chris for sharing this glimpse into life at sea.
