Just over two weeks to go until Kilimanjaro to Coast 2026! 🌍

Over five days, our team of riders will cycle more than 450km across Tanzania, travelling from the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro all the way to the Indian Ocean. Along the way, they’ll take on challenging climbs, long days in the saddle and some spectacular scenery, all while raising vital funds for Transaid.

A huge thank you to all of our riders, fundraisers and supporters, as well as our Headline Sponsor British International Freight Association (BIFA) and Supporting Sponsor Chelsea Group, for helping make this challenge possible.

The countdown is officially on! ⏳

This , help us create a brighter road ahead. 🌍✨

Safe, available and sustainable transport can transform lives, connecting people with opportunities, livelihoods and a brighter future.

In Zambia, we’ve worked alongside the Industrial Training Centre (ITC) since 2006 to strengthen professional driver training and help make roads safer. At 62, retired secondary school teacher Banda Helms is one of the trainees building new skills at ITC as he works towards his Class C truck licence. Through his training, Banda is learning everything from vehicle checks and basic mechanics to defensive driving.

For Banda, gaining his licence opens up new opportunities to transport goods, support agricultural work and earn an income for his family. Looking ahead, his message is simple: “The future is bright.” ⭐

You can help create a brighter road ahead for more people like Banda by supporting Transaid’s 2026 Christmas Appeal. For companies looking to get involved, we have three corporate marketing packages available, offering fantastic opportunities to showcase your support for Transaid throughout the festive season.

We’re delighted to welcome Alan Hunt as a Transaid Ambassador! 👏

Alan is a long-standing member of the Transaid family, having joined our Board of Trustees in 2019 and serving until 2025. He has also been a fantastic champion of our work through the transport and logistics industry, as well as taking on multiple Transaid cycle challenges over the years.

Alan is currently Market Development Manager at Dawsongroup and brings considerable expertise in sales and marketing, business strategy and vehicle engineering. His connection with Transaid goes back even further; in 2016, while Managing Director of Schmitz Cargobull, he helped the company become the first trailer manufacturer to join Transaid as a corporate member.

We’re thrilled that Alan will continue his support for Transaid in this new role, helping us champion our work and engage even more people across the industry.

The 2026 Safe African Helmets Initiative (SAHI) Summit in Accra, Ghana, brought together eight countries for three days of collaboration and action to improve motorcycle helmet safety across sub-Saharan Africa.

Hosted by Transaid in conjunction with the FIA Foundation, the Summit explored some of the most pressing challenges around helmet safety, ranging from standards, testing and enforcement to affordability, supply chains and access to quality helmets.

We were honoured to welcome Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Ghana’s Minister of Transport, and to hear an opening address from Hon. Julius Debrah, Chief of Staff to the President of Ghana, who captured the importance of this work:

“Every head deserves a safe helmet, every journey deserves a safe return, and every life saved is a family kept home.”

Delegates joined us from Benin, Cameroon, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda and Uganda, alongside representatives from the African Road Safety Observatory, FIA, Global Road Safety Partnership, Global Alliance of NGOs for Road Safety, The George Institute for Global Health and other key stakeholders.

A key outcome of was a renewed commitment to collaboration, with participating countries and partners developing a roadmap to build on progress and help reduce preventable deaths and serious injuries.

During the Summit, Agnieszka Krasnolucka, FIA Foundation Programmes Director, Caroline Barber, Transaid Chief Executive, and Hon. Joseph Bukari Nikpe, Ghana’s Minister of Transport, signed a charter affirming a shared commitment to supporting Ghana’s motorcycle helmet progress.

Thank you to the FIA Foundation, Ministry of Transport - Ghana, Ghana's National Road Safety Authority - NRSA, and everyone who contributed their expertise and experience across the three days.

A huge thank you to Trade Tech for its generous donation of US$1,000 to support Transaid’s work. 💛

Support like this helps Transaid continue our work to transform lives through safe, available, and sustainable transport, working with partners and communities across sub-Saharan Africa.

We can help more people like Banda Helms develop vital defensive driving skills, help more mothers like Minivah Miselo access healthcare when distance and a lack of transport stand in the way, enable long-distance truck drivers in Kenya to access essential healthcare services while on the road, and help professional drivers in Ghana access vital road safety education.

Thank you for helping us keep communities moving safely!

The third and final day of the Safe African Helmets Initiative (SAHI) Summit in Accra, Ghana, brought three days of collaboration, learning and shared commitment to safer motorcycle helmets to a close.

The day began with a session exploring legislative gaps and opportunities to improve helmet safety, led by Transaid’s long-time friend and partner Namuyiga Irene of Safe Way Right Way Uganda, followed by a technical masterclass from Dr Terry Smith on certified helmets.

Transaid’s Sam Clark then facilitated a workshop exploring the helmet supply chain, with delegates discussing potential innovations to address bottlenecks and improve access to quality, certified helmets.

Participating countries also reviewed and updated their workplans, turning the discussions and learning from the Summit into practical next steps for implementation.

The Summit closed with thanks from the FIA Foundation, Ghana’s National Road Safety Authority - NRSA and Transaid to all country delegates and technical partners for their valuable contributions over the three days.

With plans already confirmed for the next SAHI Summit in 2027, there is plenty of important work to take forward in the year ahead.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed to such a productive and collaborative three days.
