Although there are exceptions amongst the startup and the corporate players, it is entirely reasonable that the aerospace giants and SMEs that partner up with the former are aiming to launch their flying taxi products to market with higher levels of autonomy. In this case, the Wisk Cora joint-venture partnership between Boeing and Zephyr Airworks / Kitty Hawk are developing their vehicle(s) for operations without an on-board pilot. Deep pockets coupled with expertise in aircraft hardware and software certification may well be the way for certifying and mass-producing fully autonomous eVTOLs, not venture-funded startups.

However, this is a different deal with startups going the piloted or the optionally-piloted approach. Runway matters.

We spoke with Gary Gysin, CEO of the Boeing-Kitty Hawk joint venture Wisk Aero, about the eVTOL developer’s plans to go direct to autonomy.

The Urban Air Mobility vision is so much more than on-demand aerial taxis. With a diverse set of scenarios only bound by entrepreneurial creativity, we can create a real impact on the developing world by having a more global and holistic perspective on this technology.

Check out how serves as a prime example for UAM and its potential in the developing world.

Rural Aerial Mobility (RAM) will need to be considered for two reasons: 1) more efficient connection between rural and urban areas and 2) commercial operations testing in sparsely populated areas and low air traffic.

The question is, do we need eVTOLs to bring value to rural communities or use electric fixed-wing with STOL capability?

Let’s explore a new form of connectivity for rural communities.

This is how is approaching network optimization in UberAir launch cities. In addition to modelling the spread of demand, available skyport infrastructure, and airspace availability, they are adding a layer that reiterates their routes based on an ambient noise heat map of a city.

What Do We Do?

The Aviary Project aims to enable and support the future of aerial mobility by bringing together the greatest minds in the world and create the defining ecosystem.

We believe in easy and affordable access to the skies above us, a world where aerial mobility is not a luxury but the standard of everyday life.

Founded with the goal of enabling true aerial mobility, we want to create a community of pioneering technologists and aid them in their journey to change the world of transport. From a diverse background encompassing fields in business, engineering, and infrastructure, we are professionals who have a strong fascination in aerial mobility, VTOL & eVTOL technologies, and the future of sustainable transport.
