It’s Father’s Day here today, along with it being the longest day of the year and also my wedding anniversary. So a big day in all. Near the end of last year I discovered that my first case I ever made with my late father still survived, one of my uncles had it. Well it was finally returned to me and apart from some minor damage is still okay. My father and I built it back in 1984 when I was only 15 as we needed a better fishing tackle case. It was too big in the end but we both loved it at the time. It’s now on display in my workshop along with other reminders of my past with my late father. Happy Father’s Day everyone and thanks for all the memories “old man”.

This week I built four makeup mirrors, upcycled two coffee machine cases, brought a new mechanical pencil and started on a wardrobe case. The makeup mirrors will be joining the other ones I made recently on a film set. The coffee machine cases were made a bit taller to accommodate new coffee machines. I love the patina of the old ball corners, the amount of load in’s and out’s and places they have been to keeping the crew caffeinated! The new mechanical pencil has a white lead that very handy for the black phenol coating. Most mechanical pencils use French chalk/ soap stone this one doesn’t. I’m not sure what it is but it marks well and can be rubbed off easily. The wardrobe case will be finished next week ready to join a major tour.

One small production case made and getting ready to be shipped and onto a tour. This one has a hinged front door, with storage, a hinged top, duplex Trueone power in/out to 13amp sockets, an access door in the rear and 2x drawers. All made in birch plywood.

After the production case I went straight into building these makeup mirrors. All made now waiting for their PAT test and then off to the film world next week. I cut a few extra out ready for assembly another day. Next week I’ll be building another production case for the music world.
