“This proves women can compete alongside men”: Sarah Ruggins rides 6,000km

in 13 days to break world record for cycling the length

British ultra-endurance cyclist beats the outright record by more than three days

and sets a new women's seven-day distance record at the same time

Dr Sarah Ruggins has broken the outright world record for cycling the length of

mainland Europe, completing the 6,000km-plus ride from Tarifa, Spain, to

Nordkapp, Norway, in 13 days, 20 hours and 27 minutes.

Riding solo across nine countries, Ruggins beat the previous record of 16 days, 20

hours and 59 minutes, set by Dr Ian Walker in 2019, by three days and 32 minutes.

UK weather maps reveal where temperatures could reach 27°C next week

After a cool and unsettled start to June, the weather pattern is beginning to shift

once again. High pressure is forecast to build across the UK this weekend, bringing

more sunshine, drier conditions and temperatures climbing back above average.

Saturday will bring a much improved day across large parts of England, Wales and

Northern Ireland.

After a week of rain, showers and grey skies, sunny spells will become increasingly

widespread through the day as high pressure gradually takes control.

Temperatures are expected to reach the low 20s quite widely, with the warmest

spots in southern England reaching around 24°C.
