Extremely excited to announce that we’ll be hosting publishing powerhouse Alison Barrow at our November retreat this year!

All our guests will receive advance reader copies of ‘When Everything Was Burning’ before the book is published next June. I think there will be some fascinating echoes between the book and the HOT summer we’ve just experienced.

Saturday will be spent exploring the town of Malton, with Alison joining us that evening to talk about her book, followed by a visit to the local pub.

We now have just 3 rooms left! DM me for the booking link.

BOOK TEASER:
In the blazing summer of 1976, when Britain is gripped by drought, fire and a strange airless heat, the Robinson family are living under pressures of their own.

Then, on a Sunday in June, a terrible moment changes the course of all their lives.

What follows is a story of love, secrecy and survival. As the years unfold, a mother and her children, their neighbours and lovers, must live in the aftermath of that day, each carrying their own version of what happened.

Sweeping yet intimate, richly atmospheric and deeply humane, this is a novel about what lies hidden in ordinary lives: about damage and inheritance, grief and desire, and the fragile bonds which people remain tethered to one another.

Extremely exited to announce we will be hosting, publishing power-house, Alison Barrow’s debut novel at our November retreat.

All our guests will receive advanced reader copies of ‘When Everything Was Burning’ before the book is out next summer. And after the heatwave summer of 2026, I think there will be a lot we can relate to!

Saturday will be spent touring the Yorkshire town of Malton, with Alison joining us that evening to discuss her book and then finally a visit to the local pub.

We now have 3 rooms left available. DM me for the booking link.

This one is for our historical fiction fans! Our first author evening at the Yorkshire Retreat we will host Sara Sheridan - reading and chatting through her latest book, The Jewel Keepers.

With a bit of mystery, a bit of romance and a literal treasure hunt… this book was an absolute fun time and I’m excited for our guests to read it as we adventure through Edinburgh.

To open the weekend, on November 6th, we will toast to Sara’s beautiful book, and afterwards, share 3 course meal at The Talbot, fit for a queen.

We still have 4 rooms left available. DM me for details or head to the website to book.

Let’s all be a little bit more Dolly! What a woman to aspire to. And what a champion of reading for the masses. As a small tribute - I’ve collected a few books I think she would have appreciated. Have I missed any obvious ones?

From her small town roots, to her super stardom and famous quips, I hope that besides the music, she will be most remembered for her compassion and commitment to literacy with the Imagination Library.

She truly was ‘a diamond in a rhinestone world’!

July was a great reading month with all books 4🌟 + and I even managed to read 3 books beyond me 3 re-reads of our retreat books (which I recommend below). Have you read any of these?

I recommend :
INTO THE BLUE : everyone who likes a love story just grab this.

HORSE : a sweeping story of endurance and love with clever plotting.

FEAST: a beautifully told story of a women coming of age and the magic that is lost.

THE LAST TIME I SAW HER ALIVE : for a winding summertime thriller, great for the UK staycation vibes.

LOCALS : a collection of pubs and stories attached to them - this is the perfect coffee table and hosting book for Londoners.

LIGHT WIELDER : a solid conclusion to the 2 pasty Romantasy but I do recommend reading them together for maximum impact.

This time next week our guests will be arriving to our summertime Cotswolds reading retreat and I’m excited for all the new activities we have planned.

Worth noting that non of our retreat look the same as we plan activities specific to the venue and retreat books on offer. So every offering is bespoke and each weekend unique.

Excited to host at the fabulous .minstermill
