Currensea, which operates the Hilton, Marriott and United Airlines debit cards (with more to come), has changed how it treats payments to HMRC.

The good news is that you will now earn points when you pay HMRC using a Currensea-issued debit card. In the past, you only earned credit towards milestone bonuses.

The bad news is that there is now a fee attached to HMRC payments but it will be worth paying in some scenarios.

Work is now underway to replace the Club Aspire lounge in Terminal 5 with a No1 Lounge.

The good news is that the lounge is getting bigger. There is a limit to how much bigger, because of the layout of the terminal, but it seems to be gaining another 20 feet or so of depth.

Throw in a re-design of the interior, hopefully along the lines of the Plaza Premium lounge which is quite efficient, and you should have a far more welcoming space. It’s never going to be big enough to welcome everyone who wants to get in, and it’s always going to be busy, but I’m sure it will be much improved.

Three years after a major relaunch which saw your points balance lose a lot of value, Club Eurostar has announced another devaluation.

Details should be dropping into your inbox today (Thursday). The changes kick in from 29th October.

Whilst devaluations are never great, I have some sympathy here. Because Club Eurostar has revenue-based earning, redemptions prices need to go up in line with cash ticket inflation. If they don’t, there will be too many points chasing the same number of reward seats.

If you run your own business, small or large, you can now get an enhanced sign-up bonus on the British Airways American Express Accelerating Business Credit Card.

It comes with a substantial 40,000 Avios sign-up bonus until 6th October. This compares to the standard bonus of 30,000 Avios.

Even better, even if you hold the personal British Airways American Express Credit Cards, you DO qualify for the bonus if you have a small business of some kind.

Even better, starting in October, all cardholders will receive £200 statement credit each calendar year when you book through Avios Hotels or Avios Car Hire. You would receive £200 in October 2026 and a further £200 in January 2027.

This article looks at whether it is worth using your Avios to book a hotel room.

I generally try to stay away from the eternal question of ‘What is an Avios worth?’. At the end of the day, it is a 100% personal decision.

It is a decision based on numerous factors – where you fly, what cabin, whether you normally use an American Express 2-4-1 Companion Voucher or Barclaycard upgrade voucher and (the one rarely considered) what class you would pay for if Avios flights were not available.

What you can do, though, is put a floor on the valuation of an Avios. One way of doing this is to look at what they are worth if you redeem for hotel bookings since this is an easy way to cash out your Avios.

Aspire has just opened three new or refurbished lounges at Birmingham Airport, as it moves away from its ‘one size fits all’ model to three tiers:

*Aspire Lounges are the standard lounges – these are the ones accessed via Priority Pass, Dragonpass or similar cards or for cash

*Luxe by Aspire is the mid-tier option, aimed at airlines who pay for access for premium passengers, premium cash customers and Priority Pass customers who want to pay an upgrade fee

*Suites by Aspire is the top-tier, featuring table service and aimed at premium long haul airlines who are willing to pay for a luxury product

At Birmingham Airport, Aspire has gone from having two old-style Aspire Lounges to having one of each of the above.

American Express has just launched a 60,000 Avios sign-up bonus for the British Airways American Express Premium Plus Card.

This is very generous, by any standards.

There is also a sign-up bonus of 10,000 Avios on the free British Airways American Express Credit Card.

This is the first time in over three years that there has been an openly-promoted special offer on these cards. Recent offers have only been available via ba.com and avios.com.
