Greg and I were fortunate enough to be invited to a very special event today, hosted alongside a wonderful group of suppliers from the Finnish Lakeland.

This truly unique region of Finland offers so much more than many people expect. While Finland is often seen as a winter destination, the Lakeland region is perfect all year round. From immersive and experiential travel to active adventures, breath taking scenery, and even off-grid escapes, it’s an incredible choice for those seeking something a little different.

Lakeland is also a haven for wildlife lovers. You may be lucky enough to spot the incredibly rare Saimaa ringed seal in Lake Saimaa (of which there are only around 400–500 left in the world), as well as Finland’s iconic brown bears in their natural habitat.

It’s also a dream for wellness lovers. Finland is famous for its saunas, with over 3 million across the country - and more than half of them located in the Lakeland region. The perfect way to end your day, no matter how you’ve spent it.

A huge thank you to the team at Nordic Travel Solutions for the kind invitation, and to Visit Finland for sharing such valuable insight into this beautiful part of the world.

I wish I was in Finland

Have you ever seen a more idyllic beach photo? 📸🏝

This sunset shot was taken by Zoe during her stay at The Westin Turtle Bay Resort & Spa in Mauritius, a beautiful, authentically decorated retreat set along the sheltered shores of Turtle Bay on the island’s west coast.

While Mauritius is often recommended during the UK’s winter months for its warm, dry climate, the west coast is a fantastic choice year-round. It’s especially ideal between May and September, during the quieter shoulder season, when you can enjoy fewer crowds, excellent weather, and often better value too.

As part of the renowned Marriott International portfolio, alongside Le Méridien Île Maurice and The St. Regis Le Morne Resort, guests at The Westin Turtle Bay benefit from an exceptional dine-around programme. And with access to 14 restaurants, you can savour everything from authentic Mauritian flavours to Italian and Mexican cuisine.

And it doesn’t stop there…
The resort offers beautiful suites, a world-class spa, calm lagoon waters perfect for paddleboarding and snorkelling, amazing sunsets, and warm, attentive service throughout.

If you’re dreaming of effortless luxury with a touch of authentic island charm, Mauritius’ west coast might just be your perfect holiday.

Today is International Day for Monuments and Sites 🌍

Observed every year on April 18, this day highlights the importance of preserving our shared cultural heritage from historic monuments and archaeological sites to landmarks that tell the story of human history. It also reminds us how vulnerable these places can be, and the ongoing efforts needed to protect and conserve them for future generations.

The idea for this day was first proposed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982 and later adopted by UNESCO in 1983. Since then, it has grown into a global celebration, encouraging communities, students, and heritage professionals to come together and safeguard our cultural treasures.

From the Great Wall of China to the Acropolis in Athens, the Taj Mahal, Iguazu National Park, and even the Tower of London, these incredible sites connect us across time and place.

Which UNESCO World Heritage Sites are on your travel bucket list? ✈️

We love Spain! 🇪🇸

The sun is shining again, but we're still thinking about holidays in warmer climates! And if you're anything like us, lounging by a pool all day just isn't your thing, so being based within the centre of a beautiful, historical city, with streets lined with local bars and restaurants that are perfect for enjoying with a Sangria outside whilst soaking up the views (and rays), is just ideal!

That's why we love Tarragona, in the Catalonia region of Spain. This coastal gem has a fantastic golden beach and a rich and fascinating past. Wander through this charming old city and you'll find yourself surrounded by ancient Roman architecture that has been beautifully preserved. What makes Tarragona truly unique is how history lives alongside modern life. Its Roman walls still stand today, even forming part of the interiors of shops, restaurants, and banks.

Our favourite hotel in the area is the H10 Imperial Tarraco. Your stay is made to feel even more special when your balcony overlooks a Roman amphitheatre and the sparkling sea. An amazing backdrop for your morning coffee or evening glass of wine.

What makes a trip to Tarragona even better?
🚄 Catch a direct train from Tarragona to Barcelona in less than 45-minutes, for around £10 per person for even more sightseeing.
✈️ Fly to Reus (15-minutes to Tarragona) from London in just over 2-hours.

Why not book a last-minute trip and enjoy some almost guaranteed sunshine and warm weather?

⭐ What we’re working on today⭐

I’m currently planning our own self-drive holiday from Monaco to Brindisi, with stops in Genoa, Florence, Rome, and Sorrento along the way.

We’ll be travelling with our 14-year-old son, who’s especially excited to visit Monaco for the supercars, stop in Pisa to see the Leaning Tower, and return to Rome - somewhere he last visited at just 6 years old, and is now looking forward to experiencing again with a new perspective.

From there, we’ll continue along the Amalfi Coast before heading further south to unwind near the coast, ending our trip at the beautifully restored 18th-century Apulian farmhouse, Masseria Parco della Grava, which dates back to 1726 (a stop that I am especially excited for, given how beautiful the property is!)

We've worked on a mixture of revisiting special places, and some well-earned time to relax before heading home.

If you're thinking of booking an Italian self-drive holiday (or anywhere in the world, for that matter), then please do get in touch. We'd love to work with you to create something unique.

🐊 Blue Dragons of the Caribbean: A conservation success story.🐊

Beneath the surface, coral nurseries and lionfish patrols are helping to restore balance to the Cayman Islands’ fragile marine ecosystem. Visitors are encouraged to take part in these initiatives, playing a meaningful role in protecting and revitalising the ocean environment.

On land, the story is just as inspiring. Unique to the Cayman Islands, the blue iguana was considered functionally extinct just two decades ago. Thanks to a dedicated recovery breeding programme, more than 1,000 of these striking, dragon-like creatures now thrive in the wild. Visitors can further support conservation efforts by volunteering with the National Trust for the Cayman Islands.

For environmentally conscious travellers, the Cayman Islands offer more than just natural beauty - they provide an opportunity to make a genuine impact. A holiday here is not only memorable, but also deeply rewarding for those seeking to support sustainability while exploring a truly unique destination.
