For those of you with a late flight home from your holiday, here's a little 'hack'. ✈️🕐

Book an all-day beach club (or Lido) with shower and changing room facilities. They don't have to be expensive, either. 👙☀️

We recently stayed in the Puglia region of Italy, and with a late flight home booked, and a hotel that charge to use the facilities for the day, we figured that it was a great opportunity to try out one of the beach clubs!

We loved it. The last day didn't feel dull, miserable or like a waiting game.

For information, we visited Lido Cala Pescatore. There were 5 of us. We paid approx. 60 euros for 5 sunbeds, 2 parasols, and 2 small tables. An aperol spritz cost 7 euros, and food prices were around 10-15 euros - cheaper than some restaurants.

Today is World Photography Day 📸

I've struggled to share just one of my favourite photos, so I'm sharing multiple from our trip to Mauritius in August of last year 🦤

This year's theme is 'home', and the hospitality of the Mauritian people really makes you feel at home, which is why I've chosen Mauritius 🏡

We'd love to see your favourite images from one of your trips (or more than one, if you like).

One of the most beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Sites (in our opinion!). 🌷🇮🇹🍦

We highly recommend visiting the trulli houses in Alberobello just before sunset... 🌇

🐘 World Elephant Day. 🐘

Meet Long’uro - one of the elephant calves whose story shows exactly why Reteti Elephant Sanctuary’s work really matters. Rescued as a vulnerable orphan and hand raised by Samburu community keepers, he’s grown into a cheeky, confident young elephant, and this year, Reteti announced he’s now preparing for the ultimate milestone: a return to the wild.

As Long’uro and his herd move towards independence at Reteti’s second sanctuary, it also means more space and resources at the original site for the next calf who needs round the clock care during their critical early years.

🧡 It’s a beautiful cycle of rescue, rehabilitation and release, led by the local community and powered by people who never give up on these gentle giants.

A visit to Reteti is a chance to see this work up close and understand why protecting Kenya’s elephants matters more than ever.

🇮🇹 A day in Naples - our last day on the west coast of Italy... 🇮🇹

With our last stop on the west coast being Salerno, and Naples just a short drive away from our lovely little B&B, we decided we couldn’t leave without seeing the city for ourselves, especially after hearing so many negative reviews.

We had a great day! Perhaps when your expectations are low, it’s easier to be pleasantly surprised. Yes, it has its quirks, and it isn’t quite as clean and polished as some of the other towns and cities we’d visited, but it’s also a vibrant, fascinating city full of character.

There are so many beautiful historic buildings, including the shopping centre (Galleria Umberto I), as well as endless patisseries, gelaterias, restaurants and street vendors selling Aperol Spritz like corn dog sellers in New York! 😋

We also stumbled across what may be the most adorable sweet shop we’ve ever seen – La Fabbrica del Meraviglie. 🍭

And, for the football fans, you can’t miss the influence of Diego Maradona, with his face appearing in street art all over the city, including one particularly impressive mural.

Naples definitely surprised us. Sometimes, seeing a place for yourself is the best way to make up your own mind!

🇮🇹 From Rome to Cava Di Tirreni, Salerno. 🇮🇹

After a busy (and very hot!) couple of days exploring Rome, we collected our hire car and headed south to the charming town of Cava de' Tirreni, in the province of Salerno. This would be our base for the next two nights as we explored Naples and other local towns.

For our stay, we chose Una Volta, a beautiful three-bedroom B&B run by the wonderful Maria and her husband. From the moment we arrived, we knew we'd found somewhere special. The property was even more beautiful than the photos and website suggested, and every glowing review we had read about Maria was absolutely deserved. She made us feel so welcome, and it was clear how much pride she takes in her home.

One of the things we love most about travelling is immersing ourselves in local communities, and this stay was the perfect reminder of why. Supporting a locally owned business and experiencing genuine Italian hospitality made our stay feel so personal. Breakfast was freshly prepared and served by Maria each morning, and even our 15-year-old said it felt like a true "home from home".

Una Volta is best suited to travellers with a hire car, making it an ideal base for exploring the surrounding region. Cava de' Tirreni town centre is just a short drive away, Naples Airport is around 50 minutes by car, and both Pompeii and the Amalfi Coast are within easy reach.

There's also an excellent pizzeria right next door, serving delicious pizzas, friendly service and great value. (Our photos may have you booking the next flight to Naples!)

If you're planning a multi-centre trip including southern Italy and would like to include a stay at an authentic, family-run B&B like this, I'd love to help you create the perfect itinerary. Sometimes it's these hidden gems that become the most memorable part of the journey.

We had 1 day to explore as much of Genoa as possible. 🇮🇹

We love street art and beautiful buildings, so going to see the Palazzo San Giorgio was a must. We walked via Marina Porto Antico and Via Garibaldi.

And Tyler loved the air vents coming up from the metro stations on such a hot day! ☀️
