Mortimers Forest Trail Run

Mortimers Forest Trail Run A shorter 4 mile course on easier tracks has also been introduced for 2024.

The revitalised Mortimers Forest Trail Race is a tough, muddy course, marked with plenty of marshals
10 miles and 1600 feet of climbing in winter make this a tough challenge.

All permits now applied for, just waiting on final permissions, then we're good to open entries!
13th December, the only date you need this year.

11/04/2026

It's me again, finally!
Provisional date for Mortimer Forest Trail Race 2026 is Sunday 13th December, save the date :D
This year we intend to increase entry limit, and donate more to charity, supporting causes that help maintain our wonderful natural resources.

While I have you're attention, Monstay Farm which the race goes through has closed the permissive path from Bringewood to Vinnalls carpark (the fields going to the last road crossing). This is due to some irresponsible dog owners during lambing season, so please do not use this path (it has always been a permissive path, not legal right of way). They hope to reopen it in the future and we have been assured access for the race, but please respect this closure and ensure (wherever you are) you respect the countryside and all other users.
I don't want to put a dampener on the race excitment. We will still be sticking to the same route as the last two years, but we all have a responsibility over our actions and where we run, and are very lucky to have such ready access to beautiful areas. Again, be assured, we will be allowed access for race day.

I am delighted to confirm that Ludlow Runners have donated £800 from the race to local environmental causes. This has been split between Friends of Mortimer Forest and Herefordshire Wildlife Trust. Funds have come from £2 of each entry, plus additional donations from participants and the club.
We are very lucky to have such wonderful countryside to explore and host events in, however we can't ignore the impact our event has. While we can try to mitigate our impact, encouraging car sharing, working with Forestry England in Shropshire & Herefordshire to avoid sensitive areas etc, 300 pairs of shoes make quite a mess still. Organisations such as the The Wildlife Trusts and Friends of Mortimer Forest help to manage the area for people and nature, performing key conservation and education among other work.

Thank you to everyone for their work in managing this beautiful part of the world, and to all participants who have donated.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas, and I look forward to welcoming you back to Mortimer Forest in 2026!

A dash under 2 weeks to go, how exciting!
Final details will be sent out the week before the race, but you can find some on the day information on the website https://mortimerforesttrailrace.wordpress.com/

We are still working through the waiting list (currently sat at 53) so please let me know ASAP by email if you can't race. If you receive an email offering you as place, please respond yes OR no as soon as you can. Participation medallions can't be refunded now and no entry refunds from next weekend.
If you can't race, please consider volunteering instead. We have all bases covered but the more smiley faces we can get on the course, the better :)

£2 from every entry goes to supporting local charities, Friends of Mortimer Forest and Herefordshire Wildlife Trust, we will also be accepting donations on the day.

Podium Catering will once again be at the race, based at race HQ, keeping you warm and energised with a range of food and drink. Tim's food was cvery popular last year!

Prizes are once again provided by the amazingly talented Ellie at Pretender to the Throne. Spot prizes donated by our very own apiarist Sally, providing honey foraged from the very depths of Mortimer Forest itself!

Ludlow Runners look forward to welcoming you all to Mortimer Forest on 14th December!!
