For the Love of Steam

For the Love of Steam For the Love of Steam is my personal passion project.

It was my love of steam and all things narrow gauge that first inspired me to pick up a camera and to share my passion for steam, narrow gauge & railway modelling with fellow enthusiasts.

20 years ago this weekend I thoroughly enjoyed my first ever visit to the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway for the steam gala in 2006. And yesterday, I was back there again and even managed to recreate this shot of The Earl taking water at Llanfair Caereinion! Out this weekend over on Youtube is the new 20 years later video looking back on an excellent Welsh steam holiday back in 2006 (direct link in the comments), and videos from the gala this year will be coming soon 😊

Today on The Railway Room is the third (and last for now) video on The Talyllyn Railway, the 009 model by Roger Bugg. This video focuses on more modern preservation era motive power, with Tom Roly, Douglas, and diesels including Alf on a rare passenger train!

A slightly different video this week; a day spent watching trains in Jenbach in the Austrian Tyrol back in 2007. The station site is shared by 3 different railways on 3 different gauges: steam power on the metre gauge Achenseebahn, and a mix of steam and modern diesels on the 760mm gauge Zillertalbahn. The two narrow gauge lines flank the electrified standard gauge OBB, allowing for a great variety of workings to be observed, including the engine shed traverser on the Achensee, standard gauge transporter wagons on the Zillertal, and after dark workings on the main line!

A look back to August 2007 for a full day of trainspotting at Jenba...

I had a fantastic day out a couple of weeks ago on my first ever visit to the Foxfield Railway. A thoroughly charming line with loads of character, I'm really looking forward to going back! In steam on my visit was the 100 year old unique Kerr Stuart "Witch" class No 4388, a fascinating loco which is due to visit the Severn Valley Railway later this month for their summer gala. This first video from Foxfield focuses on the loco in action viewed from footpaths and crossings in the beautiful Staffordshire scenery. Look out for the on board videos coming to the channel soon!
