Yesterday, we were pleased to see some of Chorlton’s councillors announce that the Old Police Station building at Chorlton Bus Terminal is going through the final stages of being purchased from TfGM. We have been working with TfGM and the council for several years to try to find a solution for the building that really works for the community. We have worked with who have kindly provided some working sketches of what our vision for the space could look like. In that time, we have also transitioned into a Community Benefit Society - Chorlton Bikes CBS - which means everything we do is rooted in, and for the benefit of, the community we serve. We have successfully sought funding from Cooperatives UK last year to start to build a business case which would enable us to develop a sustainable travel hub as anchor tenants in a development which would also offer a co-working space: something we have identified as an important addition to the local economic landscape. We believe this could establish a development which is financially sustainable, provides a vital service for the local economy and enables us to further grow our work serving the neighbourhood through our community services and sustainable travel plans. We have consulted with some local residents, collaborated with a range of local experts on potential financial models and sought the expertise of professionals in the sector who have led on similar projects in South Manchester. We look forward to working with all stakeholders in Chorlton as the exciting future and potential of this site takes shape.
