I haven’t been posting much lately, but I wanted to share a story about someone who inspired me.
Twelve years ago, while returning from a motorcycle trip through Southern France, I met a guy named Martin on the ferry from Santander to Portsmouth. He was from London, rode a Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail, and was 71 years old at the time.
What made him stand out wasn't just his age or the bike, but the life he was living. He travelled the world photographing birds and wildlife, carrying cameras and lenses wherever he went. He was also involved with wildlife conservation organisations connected with the work and values championed by Sir David Attenborough.
Listening to his stories about wildlife, photography, and travel was fascinating. It was also the first time I had ever seen a Harley-Davidson with over 100,000 miles on the odometer. That bike had clearly taken him on countless adventures around the world.
Although our meeting lasted only for the ferry crossing, it stayed with me. For the last 12 years, the idea of combining motorcycle travel with wildlife and bird photography has never really left my mind.
Now I’ve finally decided to spend more time learning wildlife and bird photography alongside my motorcycle journeys. So if you start seeing more photos of birds, wildlife, and nature on this page, you’ll know exactly where that inspiration came from.
Sometimes a chance meeting with a stranger can leave a lasting impression and quietly influence the path you take years later.
