We know we've been a little quiet on the page recently... but we promise, it's for a very good reason! 😅

We've been flat out delivering horses near and far, all over the country 🇬🇧🐴 and while we've been busy clocking up the miles with the Mini Mac Express, we've also been working hard behind the scenes...

🌟 BUTLER'S LOADING JOURNEY... THE REAL TEST! 🐴🚛

If you've been following Butler's story, you'll know that when he first arrived at Mac Equestrian Melrose, loading into a horsebox was something he'd rather avoid! 🙈

After plenty of patient groundwork and positive training, Butler's confidence has grown enormously, and his owner Roy has been delighted with the progress. ❤️

But Roy mentioned something interesting...

💭 "He'll load at home now... but he refused to load after being at a show."

So we decided to recreate exactly that situation.

Yesterday Butler loaded happily into the Mini Mac Express before heading off on a short trip. 🚛

One thing many people don't realise is that horses don't perceive time like we do, so whether the journey is five minutes or five hours, the important part is what happens before and after the journey.

Back at the yard, Butler unloaded calmly... but instead of heading back to his stable and his friends, we turned him around and quietly asked him to load again.

This was the real test. 🤔

Would he think...

"No thanks, I'm home now!"

Butler's response?

🍺 "Hold my beer... I've got this!" 😎

He walked straight back into the horsebox.

Then quietly unloaded.

Then loaded again.

Then unloaded again.

Then loaded again...

✅ Three more perfect repetitions with no hesitation, no stress and no drama.

That's when you know the lesson has truly clicked. 💚

Training isn't about forcing a horse to do something once...

It's about building the confidence so they choose to do it every single time. 🙌

We couldn't be happier with the progress this lovely young horse has made in such a short space of time. Butler has been an absolute pleasure to work with, and we can't wait to see what he achieves next. ⭐🐴

Well done, Butler... you've certainly earned your stable tonight! 🥕❤️

🚨 Another weekend... another rescue mission for the Mini Mac Express! 🚛🐴

One thing about horse transport is that you never know when the phone is going to ring... 📞

This weekend we were called to Cumwhinton, near Carlisle, where a horsebox had unfortunately broken down with 3 horses, 3 dogs and 3 people all stranded and needing a helping hand.

Our little Mini Mac Express is perfect for many jobs, but with room for just 2 horses, we needed some backup. 🤝

Thankfully our fantastic partners at Equine Rescue Service quickly dispatched a second 2-stall horsebox, and together we had all three horses safely transferred and on their way home to Newcastle. 🐎🐎🐎

Despite the unexpected delay, everyone stayed calm, the horses travelled brilliantly, and before long they were all safely back where they belonged. ❤️

These are the jobs that remind us why we do what we do. It's not always planned journeys and happy collections—sometimes it's about being there when things don't go to plan.

Whether it's day or night, sunshine or pouring rain ☀️🌧️, we're always ready to help horses and their owners get safely home.

A huge thank you once again to our friends at Equine Rescue Service for another great example of teamwork.

🐴💙 BUTLER UPDATE… AND WHAT A DIFFERENCE A FEW DAYS CAN MAKE! 💙🐴

You might remember the lovely Butler, who arrived with us at Mac Equestrian Melrose for some groundwork and loading practice…

There was just one tiny problem… 🤔

🚛 He wouldn’t load. At all. 😂

We did eventually manage to persuade Butler that the Mini Mac Express really wasn’t such a bad place to be, and on Monday Michelle got to work with him — starting not with the horsebox, but with the basics. 🐴🧠

Because sometimes the problem you can see isn’t necessarily the place you need to start. 💭

After just two days of basic groundwork tuition, building clearer communication, better responses and a little more confidence, today we decided it was time to revisit the loading issue and see what Butler thought. 👀🚛

At first…

Well, let’s just say he wasn’t completely convinced. 😂🙈

There was a little hesitation, a little reluctance and quite a lot of “Hmmmm… I’ll have a think about that, thanks.” 🤨🐴

But then something clicked. 💡

Butler had a little think to himself…

…and walked straight in. 😍🙌🚛

No drama.
No battle.
Just a much more confident young horse beginning to understand what was being asked of him. 💙

Coming back out, he was still a little bargy and in too much of a hurry, so rather than leave it there, we quietly repeated the process…

And the next time?

👏 Much better.

Then better again. 💪🐴

And by the end of the session, Butler had gone from a horse who wouldn’t load…

…to one who was more or less loading himself! 🤯🚛😂

In fact, he was feeling so pleased with himself that he decided the next stage of his education should probably involve…

Butler is proving to be an incredibly quick learner, and that’s what makes working with horses like him so rewarding.

The more positive learning we can put into him, the more his confidence will grow — and as his confidence grows, everything else should start becoming that little bit easier too. 🐴🧠💪

Still plenty to work on, still more confidence to build…

But after only a few days?

💙 We think Butler is doing rather brilliantly. 💙

And something tells us this lovely boy might have a few more surprises up his sleeve yet… 👀🐴✨

🚨🐎 SUNDAY EVENING… FOUR RACEHORSES STRANDED ON THE M6! 🐎🚨

At 5.30pm on Sunday, the phone rang…

A horsebox carrying four racehorses bound for Ayr Racecourse had broken down at Southwaite Services on the M6. 😳

The problem?

🏇 All four horses were due to race the following day.
📍 They still had to reach their overnight stabling at Ayr.
⏰ And the clock was ticking…

Another rescue mission was underway on behalf of our partners at Equine Rescue Services. 🚨🚛

With no single replacement horsebox available to take all four horses, ERS quickly coordinated the response — securing another two-stall horsebox alongside our Mini Mac Express.

And just to make things a little more interesting… 😂

It wasn’t only four racehorses that needed rescuing.

There were also three grooms, plus rugs, hay, feed and everything else four racehorses need for an overnight stay and a day at the races! 🧳🌾🏇

So the lovely team at ERS asked us to dispatch our 4x4 support vehicle as well to help transport the people and mountain of equipment. 🚙💨

Then it was all systems go…

📍 Destination: Southwaite Services, M6

Arriving to find the horses surrounded by HGVs in a busy motorway service area certainly made for a slightly unusual Sunday evening! 🚛🚛🚛🐎

But this is where good coordination, experienced handlers and the right transport really matter.

The four horses were transferred between the two rescue horseboxes, with our passengers and equipment loaded into the support vehicle…

…and we’re delighted to say the horses were quite happy to step aboard the Mini Mac Express. 💚🐴

From there, everything ran like clockwork. 🙌

By 9.00pm, all four racehorses were safely tucked up in their stables at Ayr, ready for the following day’s racing. 🏇💤

A brilliant result from everyone involved — and a perfect example of what can happen when people work together to get the job done. 💪🚛🐎

Now there’s only one thing left to say…

🍀🏇 GOOD LUCK TOMORROW, GIRLS! 🏇🍀

💚 TEAMWORK REALLY DOES MAKE THE DREAM WORK! 💚

🚨 SO HERE’S THE DILEMMA… YOUR HORSE IS BOOKED IN FOR LOADING PRACTICE — BUT REFUSES TO LOAD! 🤦‍♀️🐴🚚

That was exactly the situation we found ourselves in with this rather magnificent gentleman… meet Butler. 🖤😍

Butler is a 6-year-old gelding who has come to stay with us for a couple of weeks of groundwork, handling and loading practice, with the aim of helping him get back on the straight and narrow after becoming a little bit of a handful for his owner. 🙈

There was just one fairly important problem…

👉 We had to get him here first. 😂

So, the Mini Mac Express was dispatched to a local yard with the A Team of Christopher, Stevie and Ava on board, ready to see if we could persuade Butler that stepping into the lorry really wasn’t such a terrible idea. 🚚💨

And initially?

❌ Butler was having absolutely none of it.

Fortunately, this is behaviour we have seen many times before. There was no rush, no big drama and no need to turn it into a battle. Just time, patience, teamwork and some quiet, passive persuasion from all of us. 💚

And sure enough…

✅ Butler loaded. 🙌🐴

Before long, he was safely on his way to Mac Equestrian Melrose, where he stepped off the Mini Mac Express looking, we have to say, rather pleased with himself! 😂🖤

We turned him out for the night with a couple of new buddies and he settled in straight away. 🌿🐴🐴

But this is only the beginning of Butler’s journey with us…

Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be sharing plenty of updates as we work on his:

🐴 Groundwork
🤝 Handling and manners
🚚 Loading and unloading
🧠 Confidence and understanding
💚 And generally helping this big character get back on the straight and narrow

And yes… our aim is that before long, Butler will be walking on and off the lorry without even giving it a second thought. 😉🚚

🐴🚛 WHEN PLAN A ISN'T POSSIBLE... WE FIND A PLAN B! 🚛🐴

Every journey has a story, and this one was a little more complicated than most! ❤️

Meet the handsome Kippin, who needed to travel from Islay to his new home in Montrose. 🏝️➡️🏡

Originally, Kippin's owner, Lois, asked us if we could collect him directly from the island. After looking into the ferry schedules, overnight accommodation and the additional ferry costs, it quickly became clear there had to be a better way.

💡 So, together, we came up with a Plan B!

Lois arranged for friends to bring Kippin across on the ferry, and we met them at Kennacraig Ferry Terminal, where Kippin calmly transferred into the Mini Mac Express ready for the next stage of his journey. 🛳️➡️🚛

From there, we headed to Perth... but the journey wasn't over just yet.

Before Kippin could move into his new home in Montrose, his new yard required a Strangles test for all new arrivals—a fantastic biosecurity measure that we fully support. 🩺🦠

Unfortunately, the test couldn't be carried out on Islay, so Kippin enjoyed a short stay in temporary livery while the local vets completed the testing.

The good news? ✅ All results came back clear!

At Mac Horse Transport, we know that transporting horses isn't always as simple as driving from A to B. Sometimes it takes planning, flexibility and teamwork to make everything fall into place—and that's exactly what we're here for. 🤝🐴

🐴💚 ANOTHER WEEK... ANOTHER THOUSANDS OF MILES... AND ANOTHER LOAD OF VERY SPECIAL VIP PASSENGERS! 💚🚛

It's been another incredibly busy week for the Mini Mac Express, with journeys taking us as far south as Lincolnshire and across to the beautiful west coast of Scotland at Kennacraig. 🌍🐎

No matter the distance, every horse travels with the same care, patience and attention, arriving safely and comfortably at their new destination. ❤️

We finished the week transporting the gorgeous Bonnie & her beautiful foal, Bluebell. 🐴💕 With Bluebell being only a few weeks old, asking her to walk up the ramp for the first time would have been a bit overwhelming. Rather than adding any unnecessary stress, Christopher simply gave her a helping hand... or should we say, a helping lift! 🤭💪

Once on board, Bonnie and Bluebell settled brilliantly for the journey, travelling quietly together in the comfort of the Mini Mac Express. 🚛✨

At the other end, Ava was waiting to welcome them, helping little Bluebell safely off the lorry before watching the pair head into their new field to meet their new companions. Moments like these remind us exactly why we love what we do. 🥰🌿

Every journey is different, but our priority is always the same:

🐴✨ MEET MERV – OUR LATEST VIP PASSENGER! ✨🐴

Firstly, apologies for the lack of updates recently – the Mini Mac Express has been clocking up the miles as we've been busy travelling the length and breadth of the country with some very special passengers! 🚛💨

This weekend's adventure saw us rendezvous at Stirling Mart with Merv's owner, who had made the journey down from Spean Bridge in the Highlands. 🏔️

Merv took the change of transport completely in his stride, stepping from one lorry to another like the seasoned professional he is. Within minutes he was settled aboard the Mini Mac Express and heading south towards his new home at Mac Equestrian, Melrose. 🐎💚

From start to finish, Merv was an absolute gentleman. He travelled beautifully, stayed relaxed throughout the journey, and arrived looking as though he'd barely broken a sweat. 🌟

After unloading, he wasted no time making himself comfortable, thoroughly appreciating his freshly prepared deep shavings bed (as you can see from the photos! 😄🛏️). After a couple of well-earned days to settle in, Merv will begin the next exciting chapter of his journey.

We love seeing horses arrive relaxed, happy, and ready to thrive in their new surroundings. That's what makes the long days and early starts worthwhile. ❤️
