Back to my island roots on two wheels!

I’ve recently returned from the most gorgeous long weekend on the Isle of Wight, and it reminded me exactly why this little island will always have my heart.

We rode our motorbikes down to Portsmouth, rolled onto the ferry and, the moment we sailed into Fishbourne, it felt like a “proper holiday”. That short crossing somehow slows everything down and you instantly slip into island mode.

We based ourselves in a static caravan by the sea in St Helens, which was absolutely brilliant: cosy, practical and perfect for bikes and lazy mornings with a coffee in the sea air. I might spend my days planning luxury escapes, but I equally love going a little more back to basics. A simple caravan by the coast is ideal for couples, families, groups of friends or even extended family booking a few side by side.

Over the weekend we looped around the island on the bikes, revisiting places I used to go as a child (I was born and brought up on the Isle of Wight), stopping at pretty bays, breathing in that salty air and soaking up those big coastal views. It is so beautiful and so different to anywhere else in the UK.

We ate fresh seafood, demolished warm scones piled with jam and cream, and sipped local cider by the sea with helmet hair and huge smiles.

If you would love a UK break that feels like you have really “got away”, the Isle of Wight is a fantastic option for a short escape or a longer stay: easy to reach, full of character and perfect whether you want comfort and luxury or something a little more laid‑back and nostalgic.

Part of my ongoing commitment to my business and my clients, is to enhance and further my destination and product knowledge and I was therefore delighted to recently attend an inspiring “Meet the Swiss” supplier event, hosted overnight at the beautiful Barnett Hill in Guildford, and my Switzerland wish list has just grown even longer!

Across the two days I met fantastic partners from Swiss hotels, tourist boards, rail and touring suppliers. Their passion and knowledge were incredible, and I came away with so many ideas to share with my clients.

We even took part in a Swiss chocolate–themed Apprentice-style challenge (yes, plenty of tasting involved!) followed by a delicious Swiss-inspired dinner, complete with raclette, before staying overnight.

The biggest takeaway: Switzerland is so much more than “just” a ski destination. It is an outstanding choice for summer too: think sparkling lakes, clean mountain air, stunning scenic train journeys, charming villages and world-class food, all wrapped up in effortless Swiss efficiency. And if you're thinking of a city break or Christmas Market, Geneva and Zurich should definitely be up there!

I cannot wait to start using everything I learned to tailor unforgettable Swiss adventures, whether you are dreaming of snow-capped peaks in winter or lake-side escapes in the sunshine.
