Established in 1969. A top secret flying establishment, based in deepest Milfieldshire. Based on the former WW2 RAF Milfield site, Borders GC operates a fleet of 2 Tugs and 5 Gliders. Milfield has some of the best wave & ridge flying in the country. The idea behind this: Simples. To show people what it’s all about. The Flying. Lenticular clouds - nice to look at, even better to fly with! The front (windward side) has rising air and makes it possible for gliders to climb several miles(!) high. This is known as mountain wave and can be caused by our local Cheviot Hills or triggered by mountains further away like those in the Lake District or Scotland.

Nice bank holiday weather saw Mark Hopkins off on his first solo flight & John Crossman converted on to the Astir. Meanwhile one of last year's crop of solo's - Freddy Catalano - celebrated his recent Silver distance by taking our Chief Flying Instructor on a +150km cross country flight in the club DG505.

Our Easter flying week saw around 30 visiting pilots from as far away as the South Coast join our own members for glider flights up to 14,000 feet and as far as Wetherby (& back - +250 miles flown).
