Small update from the week just gone:

It's been a tip-top week for us, returning to 44004 Great Gable for the Peak Locomotive Company to carry out an injector change. This took a little longer than anticipated when an injector hold-down stud snapped and required a V-coil. Once this was sorted, we ran it up. It was nice to hear her fire into life, and she sounds amazing. Hats off to the team at Peak Locomotive Company; they truly do put their hearts and souls into maintaining and keeping these old girls running.

The Mirrlees 275:
The big-end blocks have had their final checks and have been fitted (hand tight) to the power unit. We will stress these up Monday. The camshaft is in the process of being polished and having the bearing journals checked. The last of the pipework and also the electrical conduit is being cleaned and prepped for paint.

We overhaul any diesel/gas engine with vast knowledge of English Electric, Ruston, Mirrlees, Paxman, Sulzer, and M.A.N. Our workshop facilities have five overhead cranes, chemical cleaning baths, crank/camshaft baths, shot blasters, and lathes, etc.

We have strong connections to obtain and supply parts and information within the diesel industry.

We can major overhaul and hold around seven power units at a time (Ruston 270 RK size) and aim to turn around one power unit in approximately four to six months, depending on its state on arrival. Our capacity is dependent on ongoing workload but can be ramped up depending on the size of the contract.

We also overhaul any component, i.e., cylinder heads, cylinder liners, oil pumps, water pumps, crankshafts, camshafts, overspeeds, etc. We partner with other trusted companies for crankshaft grinding and modification, specialist machine work, and processes, i.e., metallurgy work. We can custom-make and approve oddity parts that are no longer available.

We can also provide consulting and solutions for overhaul/maintenance programs, emissions, fuel, and oil consumption, as well as fault failure investigation and reports on findings. We also work with other companies to help them with design, test, and overhaul procedures, etc.

As well as workshop overhauls, we can offer site support and repair work if required.

The third Mirrlees rebuild is underway! The main bearing bores were checked, the crankshaft measured, and the oil galleries meticulously cleaned, checked, and cleaned again. We have all new main bearings in and the crankshaft back in the block, all the main caps stressed up. We then flipped the block and replaced the bellhousing and the sump, then lifted onto the build stands. We also fitted the crank seal, flywheel, and idler gear. The top deck has been cleaned and tapped out, ready for the head studs and liners. The block has had its first lick of paint. I'm hoping to give weekly updates on this.

We have also started the deep cleaning of the MAN RK280 cylinder heads and machining of the sealing rings/faces and valve seat pockets.
