Did you know that No. 9 Mark Timothy is the newest steam locomotive on the railway?

Mark Timothy entered service in 2004, its appearance is evocative of a Kitson tank engine of the former Leek & Manifold Railway; yet mechanically No. 9 is similar to locomotives No. 6, No. 7 and No. 8.

We are so glad to hear great feedback from our visitors such as this. Our dedicated staff and volunteers take pride in making every visit to the railway a special one.

"What a wonderful experience this was, like stepping back in time to a happier, simpler time. The staff were incredibly friendly with special mention to Ray and Cathy who gave us, and the dogs, the VIP treatment ....it was very kind of them. Continuing our work on research and development into bio-coal for Heritage Steam use, we were delighted to welcome a delegation from Manchester Metropolitan University.

The team are working on a post graduate research programme into developing a bio-coal for Heritage use and we were delighted to be able to operate test trains over the last two days to trail their test samples.

Created after extensive laboratory research, we were really pleased to be able to share our railway experience with the team.

We look forward to this being the start of a mutually beneficial working relationship.
